Hi everyone, Just retired from teaching and looking to swap an LS series with manual trans into my 72 El Camino. Thanks to everybody in the future for all your help Pete

The 2 areas that I’m trying to get info on is Who’s engine mounts work best and what type of exhaust/ headers work. I read so many conflicting articles that my head is swimming. I just want to buy them and have them fit. I’m swapping an LS3/5speed manual into 72 El Camino. Thanks for any info. Pete

Welcome to the forum. As you have seen there are many options out there for engine mounts and headers for LS swaps into a GM A body such as your 1972 El Camino. For motor mounts our customers have really liked the fitment with these UMI Performance UPI-4008-B motor mounts. These mounts allow you to adjust engine placement forward and rearward to help with overall fitment of the engine and drivetrain. For headers we would recommend a set of long tube Hooker Blackheart HOK-701015191HKR headers. Another option is mid-length headers for more ground clearance and if you wanted to go that route we offer the Hooker Blackheart HOK-70201309RHKR headers.

Thanks so much for responding. I’ll have to check out the products you recommended. I can’t tell you how many parts I have bought over the years and told “They’ll fit” only to be sold at a swap meet for half of what I paid for it. Thanks again Pete

I’m a do-it-yourselfer. I like to fabricate myself what you can ordinarily buy, for the challenge, and reward, from looking at something when I’m done and saying to myself that I’ve accomplished something cool. Having said that...if I were going to quickly purchase a kit, meaning complete system designed to work together without hiccup or issue...I’d go Holley. Holley owns a lot of company’s these days. You’ll need a Holley swap pan, so why not go with a system designed by the same people. You can get engine/trans mounts, headers and swap pan designed by the same folks, that work well.
