Default L96 swap in First Gen Firebird

I am new to the site and LS engines in general. I would welcome any advice or suggestions. I am wanting to do a
Simi budget build. I found a 2018 drop out L96 with 32k miles, I plan on finding a 4L80 transmission with 2800 stall converter. It is missing power steering pump and O2 sensors. I think I have determined I will eliminate VVT install 3 bolt cam, headers and LS3 intake manifold. I would use either the Holly oil pan or the GM performance unit. Not sure what motor mounts to use.

Purchased this over 40 years ago as a teenager. Needs some work, LS L96 first step!
Hoping for at least 475 hp. but still have a reliable grocery getter. I am wondering if the truck high mount alternator will clear the hood, also what bracket I can buy to move truck ac compressor up. The other question is can I use the L96 injectors in the LS3 intake with larger O rings. I know I will need a kit including timing gear and new front cover when changing the cam. Is there anything else I should do while engine is apart? I am considering trunnion kit, 160 thermostat, hardened push rods and new springs depending on cam. I am told that a LS3 cam would not require spring change, but don’t know if I would get the choppy idle I want. Considering the low mileage, should I change oil pump, water pump or anything else. I would prefer to use as much of the L96 as possible. I know it won’t look as nice as a LS3 but it’s my first build and I don’t mind. Again thanks for your help. It is a pretty big learning curve.

Welcome to LS1Tech! Cool backstory on the car. Impressive you’ve owned it this long. Good news for you is that this swap has been done to death, so you have gobs of options. Re-post this over in our Conversions And Hybrids section of the forum. I could answer all this here for you, but in the interest of leaving this an intro section, you’ll get way more help over in that section. Enjoy the journey sir!
