Hey I'm Mike from North Georgia. My car is a crusty '98 Mustang. It currently has a 3.8 V6/auto/2.73 7.5" rear. Bought the car cheap from a friend that "didn't need it anymore" so I thought what better way could I spend the last 2/3 of my life than to do something I'd always wanted to do? So I drove it home, in 95 degree heat, with no A/C and the windows didn't work. Oh, and the car is black and had been sitting in the glaring sun all day. Luckily it was only a 15 minute trip home!
Soon after I bought it I took it to the track and the first ever pass right off the trailer it did an underwhelming 17.404 @ 80 MPH. Fast forward to the end of the season and with the help of weight reduction and a little bit of spray, I ran a best of 14.46 @ 95 MPH. Not groundbreaking but it felt good to knock off 3 seconds and gain 15 MPH in my first season, so I'll take it. I'm working on it more over the winter, I'll be swapping in an 8.8 (and gearing it either 3.73 or 4.10) , UMI lift bars and drag radials. My goal this year is 13.99 before I stop playing with the junk and swap to the LS 5.3 I have. I consider my first season as a good learning experience and the only thing I wish I'd have done differently would have been to put the car on the street so I could get more seat time than just once every other weekend.
Plans are to swap in the LS with (most likely) a TH350. Engine management will be Term-X since I have no tuning experience and I feel the learning curve will be more gentle than with HPT. Driving plans are 80% track, 20% street so creature comforts take a backseat to performance needs.
