Default 1998 T/A LS1 automatic NEW PROJECT?

I picked up this 98 T/A automatic 73k original miles, the man I bought it from was the second owner and he had it 18 years, the only thing he done to it was put a WS6 hood on it and changed the rear gears from 3:23 to 3:73 rest is bone stock, the car is mint!

These are my winter plans for the engine

- SSRA Ram air kit with FTP lid and k &n filter

- want to get a set of 243-799 heads and have my machine shop do there magic

- ,All Texas speed parts: Camshaft, lifters, pushrods, rockers, springs and retainers. Long tube headers with 1⅞ tubes y pipe with cats and cat back exhaust system

- LS6 intake, LS6 ported oil pump, timing chain along with the other normal wear and tear stuff

Still not sure about injectors or how I'm going to tune it ANY SUGGESTIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Welcome to LS1tech!
Your TA is beautiful. Red is a great color for these cars.

here are my initial thoughts:

If you get the 104mm FTP lid, a 100mm MAF fits right into it. Then you won't have a bottleneck at the factory MAF.

You will also need valve covers for the heads you plan on using. 97 and 98 LS1s used perimeter bolts, 99+ and all aftermarket casting that I know of use center bolt valve covers. The valve cover gaskets are not reusable.

98 had a metal gas tank, so if you are going to replace the fuel pump, you have to get a kit that is compatible with a 98 tank or swap to a 99+ plastic tank.

98 also used a different computer which I believe is more difficult to tune. I know people have swapped to the newer computer, but I think they also have to swap the engine harness.

With that cam, you will want a torque converter. I like vigilante. You are probably going to want a stall speed of 3600-4000. Texas speed will recommend a stall speed.

The automatic transmissions and rear ends are pretty weak, so those might fail sooner than you expect after mods.

I would go with 42lb/hr injectors will work for this build. 36 would work, but 42 gives you some room to grow.

Good luck!
