New to LS1Tech and LS's
My name is Diego and I just recently got into LS engines. I've had a good amount of Nissan 240SX's and I have swapped the infamous SR20 engine a number of times. With that being said, I got fed up with turbos, turbo lag, and issues that arise from trying to make 400 WHP out of a 2.0 on my Nissan S14. I bought an aluminum 5.3 (LC9) from a local shop here in the LA area and I began to tinker with it and then I realized how much of an idiot I was by not going the LS route a decade ago. I tore the LC9 apart a couple months ago to get it bored out to a 5.7 and go from there. As I was in the process of doing that I found a '04 GTO engine with a T56 with low miles so I ended up buying it off of Ebay. As I was going through the LS1 yesterday, I realized that it has 243 heads (hopefully Z06). I am about two weeks or so away from completing this LS swap and I am stoked to be able to drive it finally. I have been on this site as a guest for a few months now and I just thought I would sign up and learn some more about these engines and its capabilities as well as to contribute my knowledge and experience with anyone that can benefit from it.
Going with a V8 swap had been crossing my mind for a while now. I do a bit of autcrossing, HPDE's, and occasional canyon runs. Throttle response and instant power to me is everything and unfortunately with small displacement turbo engines, you can't really have your cake and eat it too. I decided to keep it simple, powerful, and reliable. Anything over 300 horsepower on a car that weighs less than 2600 lbs will be stupid fun. For now I just want to get my car running and learn my car again. Once I am ready to mess with it some more (maybe in a year from now), my plan will be to clean up the heads and mill them a bit to bump up compression, convert to E85, throw a fat cam, and upgrade the springs and retainers to handle sustained high rpms from HPDE's.
