plan is to install lm7 engine, 4i60e trans , open rear end, front disc brakes into 1954 belair currently all original drivetrain

54 Belaie Welcome and good luck with your project. Hopefully we will have another conversion thread to follow. You may already be aware of some good/some bad 49-54 Chevy LS conversions threads in the Conversions/Hybrids forum. Leadfoot did most of it right. Send us pictures and ask questions. Somebody will offer solutions or advice. Be careful that some of the offered advice may not be the best thing for you. If the advice comes from G Atsma, LS1nova71 or Project GatTagO believe it. They know their stuff. Here is my rule that I try to follow: Prior planning prevents **** poor performance. If you change this, how does it affect that.
I would start by installing a TCI MII front suspension. The x-member bolts in only requiring welding the top spring cup/upper arm bracket. Mount the engine as low and as close to the firewall as possible. Leadfoot used the same x-member and Walton Motor mounts and did not have to alter the floor pan for trans clearance. I don't know how close he got to the firewall but he left some stuff that I would have removed. Not sure what pan he used. When I put the LS2 in my 39 I used a F-car pan and sat the engine with pan on a stack of wood about a half inch above the bottom of the front crossmenber.
If you use a MII front suspension, I have some good ideas on getting the streering shaft around the exhaust.
