Default 1967 Camaro L92

New to site, I am building a 67 Camaro and really wanted a LT4 supercharged engine out of a ZL1 but other parts are taking that money. Wife's car blew a transfer case, 07 GMC Yukon so I have a L92 but with 250k miles on it. Figure I can use the L92 as it is free! Well you know nothing is free. I am looking at a Texas speed stage 3 cam/spring combo and maintain the VVT. They put a lost together for me - cam, springs, push rods, lifters, new oil pump, gasket set, phaser, etc. The L92 is all new to me and I learning something new every post and article I read about them. The hp goal was 600 to 700hp, On the Camaro I am currently installing DSE 4 link in rear, DSE subframe up front, Wilwood brakes Aero 6 in front and Aero 4 rear, 14" rotors, trans to be Tremec T56 Magnum. The car will see road and autocross and hopefully some track time. The L92 seems like it can get close to the 500 hp mark with the cam llsted above, I will be using long tube headers. Just read a posting on rockers and it sounds like 1.7 is what the intake should be, stock it is. I still need to pull engine and check everything I can. Anyway, any suggestions on L92 upgrades for a high mile engine without tearing it fully down is appreciated. Thanks, Bob

The complication you have with the VVT does not warrant the minimal gains you might see with it. If I were you, I'd turn that L92 into a poor man's LS3. Drop the VVT, and the only real difference between an L92 and an LS3 are the valves, the slight drop in compression due to valve reliefs, and the intake manifold. Get an LS3 intake and a cam, and you'll be where you want to be. My LS3 makes 466 RWHP with stock heads, a cam, and a ported rod mod intake. At 4050 lbs., I've run an 11.98@115, and your '67 will likely be about 800 lbs. lighter, so you could be close to the 10 second zone if you're geared correctly. That means a fun road/autocross machine for sure.

Thanks! Still leaning towards VVT since I have it and the combo above could give 500 but still researching. I have the engine and in the future I switch to a LS3 built it should swap right in with trans, headers, etc. I found some long tube stainless headers (ARH) and leaning to 1-7/8 to 3 for it. More on the car, it will be mini tubbed, working on that now, 315s on 18" wheels. 3.70 in GearFX rear end, tremec gearing 2.66, 1.78, 1.30, 1.00, .74 and .50. IDIDIT Prolite column. Have carbon fiber/fiberglass trunk lid, rear and front spoiler (notched), cowl and header panel. Hood and inner fender wells still need to acquire. Car should be a bit lighter. Thanks for the input!
