G'day!
Thought i'd drop in and say "HOWDY" to ya's all and introduce myself.
My name is Craig, I live in Sydney and I'm a proud owner of a Holden Commodore V6 (see link in my signature)
I am in the process of modifiying the car performance wise (not much keen on body kits and wings, i'll leave that to the ricers
) and achieving some good results, un-tuned (stock computer with chip only suited to exhaust, timing advance and air/fuel) with heads and cam (lift .285 duration 272 deg), CROW Racing timing gear advanced 8 deg and a 2 1/2in sport exhaust system the car has rolled up 146.7rwKw or 196.73rwHp.
I am in the middle of customising a new plenum chamber to suit a Gen3 5.7Ltr(LS1) throttlebody, and custom intake piping to gain maximum cold airflow, and a custom tune on the ECU.
The gearbox is a 4L60E 4spd with a stg2 shift kit and a 2000rpm stall, with the rear end remaining stock running a live axle open wheeler 3.08:1 ratio (soon to be replaced with 3.91:1 LSD)
I haven't run the car on the 1/4 mile yet, but with the tune and other mods finished, i'll be hoping for low 14's running with the stock diff and high - mid 13's with the 3.91:1 LSD
Basically why I joined this site is to see what goes on over your side of the world, and to get info/feedback on the V6 performance scene (if there is any! LOL
) ... Here in Australia, V6's aren't really looked at for performance mods, but they are slowly starting to make an impact, both N/A and S/C'd ... with a few opting for the 4.3Litre Stroker kit (non EcoTec engines only).Anyway, thats kinda it for me, except to say, I like me JIM BEAM
and love nothing more than annoying the **** outta me neighbours playing the drums ... OH! and im gonna be a dad at around New Years ( due 1/1/05 )Cheers,
SKITZ
And, excuse my ignorance, but what is a stage 2 shift kit for the 4L60E tranny?
4L60E is basically a T700, electronically controlled 4spd auto
The shift kit is basically made up of a Corvette servo, bigger clutch packs etc ... Just getting the 4speed shifting harder than stock ... and lemme tell ya, it needed it!
Some guys up the line pressure for a harder shift, this works a treat, but eventually will take its toll.
I fitted the throttle body and plenumn chamber to the car on Wednesday night, and didnt get the chance to dyno the car 'til yesterday ... It made 199.2 RwHP which is an improvement on its previous run ... I was aiming for 200 ... DIDNT QUITE MAKE IT! ... but a few more tweaks and turns should see me over that mark.
