Hello Everyone!
Someone from another forum redirected me to this site and mentioned about the hybrid section, which is what im interested in....why?
I bought a 1981 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am for 600 bucks and the old 301ci 4.9L 200hp engine is tired. It doesnt even have 200hp anymore, my '85 Porsche 944 (151ci 2.5L 150hp) could easily take it in a race. Since im in the military and will be getting deployed eventually (several months from now, less than a year though), i want to have everything written down so I'll know exactly what I need to do.
I thought about putting an LT1 or LS1 in the Porsche, but figured that since the car already has a slavage title, i'd be better off getting a turbo model when I come home. But anyways... Here's the deal with the Turbo Trans Am...
Turbo Trans Am - Pontiac took their economic 301 and tried to get more power by using a Turbo since the smog emmissions were killing just about all american V8s of that era. The turbo boosts a maximum of 9psi if im not mistaken and has a compression ratio of 7.5:1. It has i think something like a 3.05:1 differential ratio and along with a 3speed automatic transmission, which of course was what came with the car, there was NO STANDARD transmission, only automatics came with this car!!! I want a stick!
I think i've said too much. I found a guy on here that has an 81 camero (same f-body style) that had done an ls1 conversion, but of course, if you have any insight on stuff like engine mounts, wiring harness's, installing a clutch on a car that has never had one... feel free to send me a line!
Hopefully the Trans Am would be the dominant one
...that would be so awesome!Have a great day!
