Howdy from SoCal
My name is Matt, and I recently picked me up an 2001 Z28 with a Six speed. I picked it up with 60,000 miles on the clock. I find the milege a little high, but so far I'm enjoying my purchase.
Except having to park out in the sticks cause it's a bitch getting outta the car with those long doors. I'm a short guy, so I have to sit fairly far up to reach the pedals (like a little kid) so I basically have to roll out and try to look cool while doing it. So far, nobody has noticed my acrobatic skills, or lack-there-of.
The car has a bad clutch in it, I thought it maybe be the dirty fluid that was all gritty and nasty to the touch. I had that flushed, but still the clutch sticks to the floor if you hammer on it. I think my car was a repo. And the guy knew it was going to be repo'd and decided to sabatoge it. I found mud all inside the Radiator fill tube.. it was caked on the little dipstick for the radiator. Inside, the fluid was all brown. The powersteering fluid was all shot and ucky, and the clutch fluid was gritty.
I had all that flushed out and fixed along with the rearend fluid flushed to be safe. Didn't cost me a thing, I love warranty stuff. Although this stuff should of been checked when they 'saftey'd' the car for my purchase. Oh well, 3 hours of my time and not a penny of cost. Is okay by me.
I just purchased a Spec3 Clutch and Billet flywheel to replace the clutch. Hoping that solves the problem, and that it's not a problem with the hydraulics.
This weekend I went to California Speedway with fellowmember Danno and another LS1 buddy of mine. Never having run the 1/4 mile before, only watched to this point. And never having really launched the Z28 due to the bad clutch. My times... weren't great... but I saw people run worse.
I got paired up with a new Subaru WRX STi... I figured I was pretty much toast to begin with.
My intial launch wasn't too bad, but when I hit 2nd gear the car lost traction and I had to feather the gas to keep it pointed down the track. Finally it got back into it and since the clutch is rather uncooperative these days during 'spirited' driving. It stuck to the floor and while trying for 3rd gear... well, 3rd gear wasn't existant at the moment. So, I missed 3rd gear... clutch out... clutch in... 3rd gear yay!
Once in 3rd gear the car reeled in that STi and I nudged him out of the victory by .242 of a second. Dispite all my screw ups... I still got a win... regardless of how slow I was I'm still pretty happy about that.
My mother has my camera this weekend, so I can't take a pic of the slip. But I don't think I'd be lying about a low 14 second run.
Here's what the slippy says:
-------STi--------Z28
R/T----.421-----.811
60'----1.971-----2.351
330---6.006-----6.177
1/8---9.300-----9.295
mph---74.98----80.16
1000--12.136---12.037
1/4---14.499----14.257
mph---94.53----102.84
My second run wasn't any better ET wise
14.38 @ 105.42mph... I botched my launch slightly. I'm nearing the top of 3rd gear when I hit the traps, I've been told I should shift to 4th to maybe gain a mph or two. I'll have to keep that in mind next time.
My current mods are: SLP Style Lid w/K&N filter, Underdrive pulley of some random origin... i'm told it isn't stock, and a Magnaflow catback exhaust, non-existant clutch, with newbie driver at the helm. I basically bought the car as is... with it's Kumho Ecsta 245's on all four wheels. Which are crap for traction.
Anywho... sorry for the long post. I hope to learn a thing or two here.

Sweet bobby... damn that WS6 of yours...
One of these days we'll have to line them up... wait... that'd be stupid. You'd win.
