LS1 Newb from Maine
Hey everyone! My name is Chris and yeah I live way up in the northeastern state of Maine. I've been lurking on this forum for a few months and decided its finally time to join in on the fun. I'm new to the LS1 engine format but have owned Chevy's all my life. I also have a 94 Impala SS with alot of miles that I use for my primary vehicle. Aside from street cars, I also race circle track at Beech Ridge Speedway in Scarborough Maine. It's a 1/3 mile asphalt oval, and my car is a mid 80's Monte Carlo with a 99 Monte Carlo body. Thats enough about me...
I bought My 99 Camaro SS back in May with 40K miles. I flew to Memphis to buy it and drove it back to Maine. It was quite a trip, 1500 miles but had no problems on the trip back and so far the car has been a dream to own. The original owner kept it in excellent condition and it runs perfect even though it is far from stock.
One of my Mustang buddys invited me to a dyno shootout yesterday at F1Dyno in Portland. I found out when I got there that I was the only Chevy to show up. So it was myself and five or six Mustangs. I told these guys some numbers the car had made with the previous owner so I guess they wanted me to show up and prove it wasn't all BS. First pull the car made 522HP/493TQ but they shut it down at 6000rpm. WE gave it about 10 minutes and did the second pull but brought it up to the rev limiter this time. Final numbers with SAE correction are 537.4RWHP @ 6200RPM, 496.3RWTQ @ 4900RPM. The only thing I was bummed about was the car made 556RWHP two years ago at 6500RPM but for some reason the rev limiter came on at 6200 this time. Oh well, at least now I have proof the car is over 500RWHP so i'm happy with it. I know it had the Mustang guys scratching their heads!
