Default Hey Guys

Hey guys. I've been lurking for a little bit and finally decided to post. I'm a bimmer guy, but I have a lot of respect for many different types of cars as opposed to other people who happen to drive the same make as me. The ls1 is undoubtedly one of the greatest motors for the price, I was thinking of saving up and dropping one in my 528i in a year or so. I know it's a lot of money and work, but it's better than having to bend over and open a new tub of vaseline everytime I go to the dealer for maintenance . The e39 is a little heavy compared to the e36 which this swap seems to be popular with, but it's better than the 2.8 with the slushbox. How much can an "all motor" ls1 put out?
This is my motivation check it out. http://www.members.aol.com/hagancue/

a N/A ls1 can put out just under 500 rwhp and be driven every day. I will be hopefully making 480ish when I get a set of heads and a 90/90 set up.

I reccommend doing a lot of research before buying mods, don't want to buy things twice.

That's pretty amazing. You seem to know what your doing, so I think I'll clone what you do when I get my motor haha. New rims and winter tires are setting me back 2,300+ from money saved for the project :bah:. What would you estimate the total cost to do the swap and get the electrical working if you were to guess? I'm thinking maybe 10,000 at most. The guy that has the TT ls1 in the link I posted is pretty cool and is gonna give me some tips.

I would buy a shortblock for one of the sponsors already built, or you can look in the junkyards for some scrapped ls1 rides. make sure you get the wiring and the computer as you will need it or you can try painless wiring. If you are looking for a used lse stay away from the 98's. the 01-02's have a better intake that flows very well with a cam.

Money it all depends on who is doing the work. could be 10,00 all said and done but it could be more. what kind of tranny and rear end are you going to use.
