Default New ls1 owner on here

I'm new here and just wanted to say hello to all members. I am now the owner of a long waited White 2002 Pontiac TransAm/Formula ws6 ramair A4. I bought it used with 60,000mi for $18,000 with an 3yr/36000mi extended warranty. It runs great. It can hang with the ls2 GTO but it got beat by a modified RSX that supposedly had 250rwhp. It also got killed by an EVO . A sn95 mustang svt cobra with drag 315s in the back took the TA out from a stop, however from a 60mph role we were even. Also all of these guys had a hard time believing I was stock. I guess they are used to pulling 10 car lenghts on others. So after that those defeat I know it is time to modify.

Quotes
Ls2 M6 GTO driver "what type of mods do you got on that thing."
RSX driver "That thing runs like a champion" "Most TAs I race didn't hang with me the way you did, are you really stock." I think this guy raced many Stock LT1s.
EVO guy "that's is not bad for your heavy v8 what are you putting out 380rwhp, 400rwhp" I replied with, "I just testing my stock TA" , he replied back with, "like it is no way this car is stock."

I have a few question:

>What mods can I have done under a warranty? My first group of mods will be.
-F.A.S.T. LSX 90mm Intake & P.T.M. 90mm Combo
-True duals
-CAI
-LID
-performance chip
You have to help me out with the chassis and drivetrain.

>I have seen two different curb weight for the 93-03 f-body. One is in the 3600LBS ranges and the other is 3300LBS range. Which one is it?

>Do these engines make 325fwhp or 325rwhp? "fw=flywheel"

>If the HP is rated at the flywheel does that mean that I am making close to 260rwhp with a possible 20% drivetrain loss from the auto?

>How much HP can the 4L60E handle?*

>What is the stress level of rear axle? When will it be time to change to a 12bolt?

>At what power level will it be time to upgrade/improve the ws6 performance?

>18" rims vs 17"rims..... what is the better choice?

>Is it a good idea to put 305-30-18R drag radials on the rear of a daily driver? Will the improve traction destroy the rear end?

>Will 10.5" rims balance out with hips of my Firebird/ will a rim with that with the width be flush with rear 1/4 panel? The stock 17x9 wheels are nice but they sink into the wheel welds which sometimes present a non-aggressive appearance from certain angles. I know it wheel be hard to find an 18x11+ rim, that is the rim width that friends suggest the will give me the look I'm after.

>Do any one have a wheel website that has other wide rims to offer other than the AR, cragarSS, CCW and zo6 wheels? I'm in search of a 18x10.5 wheel with 275-35-18front and 305-30-18rear tires. Since I have a white car the wheels of my choice will be blackpolish face with chrome or aluminum polish lip. The wheels that I have seen that meet that qualification are the z06 replica wheels from www.customwheelsmarket.com with 58mm offset. The rims cost $600 the tires cost $1000 . I mean, the initial buy is ok but tire replacements and not knowing what other issues can occur with these wheels & tires is why I haven't jump. Also, everybody has them and I'm not into expose rim lugs, I think those are for luxury cars.

Well that is all I have for right now, your comments/replies will be appreciated.

this is my first LS1, but i have been around them for a good while and done my fair share of work, i will help you out as much as possible.

1. don't know what you can do under your warranty but i can tell you right now that extended warranties are crap and very difficult to collect on. if you can do a lid and exhaust without voiding it, i would consider that a major victory.

2. curb weight depends on options, empty vehicle weight should be listed on your title if you have a copy.

3. factory ratings are flywheel horsepower.

4. yes that 260 hp figure is somewhat accurate, but i bet you are making closer to 280-290 if you are paper filter stock.

5. transmission life depends on how you treat it... more heat = shorter life. the ones i have been around have cut loose after about 400 rwhp and a big stall, but sometimes all it takes is a big stall. do your best to get rid of heat and you will be good.

6. automatic 10 bolts hold up much better than manual 10 bolts because of the way the shock is applied off the line. you will probably be able to enjoy yours into the 11s.

7. not sure what you mean by "upgrading the WS6 performance"

8. 18s look better but tires are more expensive... strictly your call here

9. drag radials are fine for daily use but they don't wear like normal radials.

10. check ebay for tomzwheels and AFS wheels, they offer a few different choices. if you want something other than them (fikse, iforged, CCW) you are going to be looking at more expense.

Welcome.

Ben aka Rally Red pretty much hit it for you, but the Hp ratings are underrated and you will see that your LS1 will make 290-300 at the tires stock through your 4L60E
