How do you like your 4th gen after having the '72? I have been driving that Blue '69 in the picture I posted evry day since I sold that '72. I really love the old cars but with Super unleaded above 3.00 and the 8 mpg i am getting I think its time for a change. i keep hoping I will find a clean LS1 car fairly close that hasnt been run ito the ground.

Nick
Thanks. I like my 98 it gets real good on gas, and has good power. 4th gen F-bodys are pretty hard to find that havent been beat, I found mine in Tucson in a Arizona Auto Trader its super clean, wasnt abused and was 100% stock when I got it. But the 72 was a awsome car, I really liked it. I just didnt like driving it to school because the people are careless in the packing lots, but it was a real attention getter as I'm sure your 69 is. Now that I have a daily driver I really miss the 72, theres nothing like driving an old muscle car. But dont get me wrong I do enjoy my late model muscle car.
You have some super nice Camaros, I really like the 68 RS/SS. The 67 and 68 RS Camaros have always been my favorites. Your 69 Z/28 is really nice too, I remember when you emailed some pictures to us when we bought the 72. Anyway good luck on your hunt for a 4th gen, and dont forget to post up pics when you get it.
Kyle
P.S. Do you have any pics of the 72 from when you had it? I lost the ones I had.

Kyle,
I dont think I have any pics left, all the ones I had taken were digital and I have since junked my old computer and lost almost all of my old pics. I can tell you just a little history on that car.

I bought in on ebay with big intentions to pretty much build it similar to the way you did. The car came from Wickenburg AZ from a guy who was just flipping 2nd gen cars. the car was advertized as being ZERO RUST AZ car. I even called and spoke to the seller for 45 mins about the car before doing a buy it now. I then drove up ther to pick the car up that weekend. well... when I got there the car was hardly zero rust as you allready know, but I figured what the hell I had drove all this way with a empty trailer and really wanted a second gen car to build.

When I got the hope I went to tranfer the car into my name and regester it so I could start to drive it while I was restoring it and that when the real pain in @ss begain. First with it being an out of state car it needed a vin inspection to verify the secondary vin. so I had to haul it 35 miles round trip to the state poilce and they could not find the secondary vin on the cowl panal. So... I had to bring it home and remove the passenger side inner fender and all of the AC crap off the firewall so they could see the stamping under the heater box. Then....The title where the vin was stamped looked like it said 1 "0" instead of 1Q for the first part of the vin. so the nice lady, we will just call her the "The Devil lady" with the chip on her shoulder at the DMV would NOT transfer it for me. She said I needed to take it back to AZ and deal with AZ on getting the title straited out. I came home pissed off about the whole ordeal and asked my neighbor who was a sherrif what he thought I should do? He looked at everything and said the title was fine it was just a light stamping on the little tail part of the Q. i took him with me to the DMV and the nice Devil lady basicly told us both to getthe h*ll out.

I then called the seller and told himabout what was happening and we desided he would just get a duplicate title and end all this BS. well he did but the problem was he would never send it to me. It took 2 and half months of emails, trips to the DMV, trips to the State Police, treating phone calls and a trip to my local Police dept to get him to send the title and get it transfered. he had every excuse in the book as to why I had not received the title from him. Finally after filing with Square Trade I got the title in the mail. I then went back to the DMV and the Devil Lady still would transfer it as she said it needed to go back to the state police to be reinspected. I left so mad I could even see strait. and went home and called her back and asked for her supervisors phone #. I called him and faxed him all of the paperwork and he said it was fine and sent me to a differant MVD to get it regestered.

It the mean time I had allready bought a 74 camaro Type LT for parts to fix some of the rust that was in the car. I swapped both doors, the hood, deck lid, upper and lower front valances( found those in the local paper for sale) and put a differant grill from the time I originally bought it. If i remember correctly I even swapped the dash pads from the two cars as the 72 pad was extremely warped from the sun. the wheels that were on it also came from the 74 as the rallys that were on the 72 when I bought it were bent.

I did drive it a couple of months but honestly I was so tired after the mess getting it regestered I just wanted it gone. when I sold it to your dad I think I still lost about 5-6 hundred dollars between the parts car I had bought and my travel expenses to go and get it and the extra parts I had bought.

Now that I think about it, I still might have a printed copy of the auction from when I orginally bought the car I was saving incase I ended up in court but I will have to look for it. If I can find it I will scan it and email you copys.

Nick

Dang, I thought our MVD was bad. Thats crazy how that lady was. We usually drive to Deming now when we get a car from out of state because when I bought my Z28 the lady at the MVD gave me the run-a-round. I ended up having to take my car to Lordsburg to get the vin inspection done by a state cop. That lady is now incharge at the local MVD. It seems like the MVD people go out of thier way to make things as difficult as posible some times.
Thanks for the info on the car, its cool when you get history on them even if you dont have them anymore. Thats too bad how that guy screwed you. The same thing happend to my dad, he bought a numbers matching canadian built 72 Chevelle SS 402 4speed the guy said it hardly any rust and when we got it, we found it had a totally rusted frame horn. My dad sold the car and kept the engine and transmission, which was going to go in the 72 before I got it from him. You did a good job picking parts for the 72 though, the body shop stripped it down to the metal and it had hardly any bondo, but as you said some rust. The only thing they didnt do was buff the car, I had to do it but they gave a good price so I cant complain, other then they had it for 4 months and kept telling me I could pick it up the next week. At one point they told me the car was already in paint and that they were buffing it out, my dad went down that weekend and the car hadnt even been touched. Maybe the car was bad luck.LOL I did learn not to take a car to a body shop that 150 miles out of town, no matter how good a price they give you.
If you happen to find the auction sometime just shoot me a PM and I'll give you my email address. I'll keep a look out down here for a LS1 F-body for you.
Kyle

Thanks. Yes it willl be a long test ride home. LOL.... I am really looking forward to going. I fly out a 6:00 AM Friday morning but dont get there untill 1:00 because I have a connecting flight, so it will be a long day. I want to be home by Saturday evening so I will need to knock out 4 or 500 miles on friday.

I will say if this car is half as nice as your old Hugger SS I will be thrilled!!!

I am not 100% sure on what I will be looking for out of the Blue '69. I need to fix a few small things before it goes and want to keep a few things so I will need to swap a part or two.

Thanks,
Nick

Thanks. I am really excited to get the car. It should be a fun ride home almost 1400 miles.

As for the first gen cars, you hit the nail on the head It is a sickness. I have owned almost 30 first gen cars over the years. I cant seem to get my fill In fact in 1984, I had 7 all at once. back then they were a dime a dozen. Man have the times changed.

Funny you have a chevelle also.... I just bought a 68 Chevelle a month or so ago that had been sitting since '91. I am in the middle of tring to restore it.

When will the madness stop
