Default New guy from Michigan

Hey guys,

To start myself off here, I've always had an F-body fascination and have wanted one for a long time now. As soon as I got my license, I received a '97 Chevy Malibu from my grandpa who no longer had a need for the car.

Fast forward to now, a year and a half later. After driving the Malibu for some time, I landed a job as an engineering intern at Cequent Towing Products (they make Draw-tite, Reese, Hidden hitch and several other brands of trailor hitches). After working all summer and selling off my Malibu to a buddy of mine, I started my search for an F-body.

On Friday I called about one listed on AutoTrader, and went to check it out. Test drove the thing, fell, in love, and bought it.

So yeah, just figured I would share some info about the car... it's a '98 Z28 Camaro, all stock except for Flowmasters. No cat or resonator, doesn't sound too shabby but I'm going to be re-doing the entire exhaust with new headers, probably true duals, etc. It needs a bit of touch-up on the back bumber, where the paint is cracked and spider-webbing a bit. I'm going to be re-doing the interior, mainly because a smoker owned the car before me and there are a couple of cigarette burns in the seat. Mechanically it looks like this thing was well taken care of. 110,000 miles and it ran beautifully, shifted excellent, etc. I don't like the head unit the guy put in the car, so I may be doing a bit of audio work as well, replacing the head unit and probably putting in some decent 6x9's. Other than that I'm not doing anything major with audio.

The car came with 18" Armano rims and tires, which were brand new. They look decent, but a bit too flashy in my opinion. He also included the stock rims an tires, so I'll be putting those back on and selling the Armanos (hoping I can get $1200 or so for them being that they are brand new).

I'm extremely excited about this car. Over the next two years I'm hoping to tun it into a high 11 second car. I'm going to do exhaust like I talked about, exhaust, intake, suspension, heads, cam, and may end up rebuilding the engine all together and get it bored to 30 over. All together, I paid $6300 for the car and am hoping to spend another $5,000 to get it in the 11 second range.

Just thought I would share about my new purchase, I'll try to get pics up ASAP.

Congrats on the pickup man. I too live in Michigan, and I know how much it sucks having winter. Do yourself a favor and get a winter car. These cars do not do well in snow, hence why mine has never seen it. Take care, and if you ever need any help, shoot me a PM.

Congrats... first car I bought out of college was a new '95 Z28. You will be amazed how fast you can burn up money spending it on the car. Just the headers and exhaust you are talking about could run you $1500.

Audiowise get a good pair of 6.5" door component speakers an amp a sub and call it good

Tons to read on here and you will probably change your mind several times about what route to go with the car... Good luck!

Brian
