Default Got Questions!

Hi all,
Im new and just signed up. I found a 93 firebird for cheap that could use a new engine. owner says the cat may be stopped up and not sure if that is what is causing the engine problems. i want to buy and put a v8 in it but not sure how big the job will be. i have a 305 from an 89 camaro but would i be better of just buying a better v8 or if i did buy a new v8 would the swap be hard??? im just getting started with this kind of project and need a lil help. Thanks

really depends how mechanically inclined you are man, theres a **** ton of great info in here on swaps and conversions and everything in between. personally if your doin a v8 swap into a 4th gen then I wouldnt put a 305 in it, because thats kinda stepping backwards. theres tons of cheap lt1's with whichever transmission you want. and thats a pretty easy swap. if you have more in your budget then I would say maybe a 5.3 or a 6.0 behind a t56. or if you have even more money do the ls1 or ls2 swap. hope this helps.

True i hear that the 305 is basically the dud of v8. i guess i was more or less just wondering how hard it would be for the v6 to v8 swap. which what i hear is a real pain in the ...yeah you get my point... and my cuz for some reason talks me into the ground when i mention the swap from v6 to v8. it just i found a firebird for 1,000. that basically needs an engine. any ideas??? it currently has a 3.8 in it.

305..... v8 gas, v6 power.......

someone help.. im the cousin that says its moronic to do a 3.8 swap into a 3.4 UNLESS the engine is shot... and also says its too much of a pain FOR HIM to do a 3.4 94 swap to a ls1.. or even an lt1....

i tried to explain that i had a 99 firebird once upon a time along with a 99 ls1 longblock... MANY extra parts and i was still looking at spending about a 1500-2000 grand in parts.. .along with work.. which he doesnt know how to do... and has no close friends that would be abloe to do it for a deceant price.

find an already running f-body for 3k. that is your best bet. trying a swap on your own without any REAL help or if you are not really mechanically inclined is moronic. there is alot more to it than just nuts and bolts.

I agree. one very important thing is having space to do it. If you live in an apt, forget about it.

if you have a house with a garage, then you can do it, but budget 3x your initial budget because that is what it usually balloons to.
