the root of our Mod problems
ok i just have a couple of questions regarding that dod sending unit that causes the huge manifold restriction
1. i always thought it was a line for fluid to pass through before i looked at it but now that i look at it it seems to be electrical (correct? incorrect?)
2. i know somebody on here was attempting to relocate it does anybody know if that worked or i not why it didnt
3. i dont know much about the fast manifolds and whatever but how do our throttle bodys work with those ( i seem to remember some talk about adapter plates but not sure)
4. Is there such a thing as an adapter so that manifolds for the trucks and LS3 manifolds will fit ls6 heads if so these may raise the manifold just enough to clear the dod sender
thanks guys

You might run into a problem with the other side hitting the power steering pump fluid reservoir. I wanna get one of those tall edelbrocks one of these days when money starts falling from the sky.

Front drive is one problem, but there are alot of 10 sec neons and some fast Cobalt SS's running around. If there were a set of headers for the ls4's that would help alot. Although the ls4 block can't really be interchanged with a bigger ls1-2 or 3, there is alot of potential for a heads and cam high revving little motor, if it could breathe. With fwd, a big cube high torque motor is not the best choice if you ask me. So a 5.3 with a wild non dod cam, ported or aftermarket heads, headers and a good intake would make quite fun a car if you ask me.

Just have Fasterproms port the one you have. Seems to be the best less expensive option with less headaches. They also port the exhaust manifolds too. Eventually this is what I will do.

the intake, manifolds, and cam are huge power robbers in this engine. The heads are good they flow very well and their probably the only reason this engine isn't a complete dog. 400 hp would be easy with an ls6 intake, a mild cam and a set of headers but unfortunately the only option is custom when it comes to the intake and headers. I'd love to see the power gains from the intake and a set of headers but I haven't seen anyone complete either one yet. I'm thinking 20+ hp from the intake 25+ with the headers and 30+ with even just an ls6 cam.

Intense made a prototype of headers for a LS4 and they added 35 hp. They used the design for the V-6 W-Bodies and added another port to them to fit a V-8. Too bad that they will not put them into production and they only used them for the cars they own themselves. That's what I was told anyway.
With a port on the exhaust manifolds and intake you will see a gain of at least 25 - 30 hp. That isn't too bad.

The cost for a set of headers are at leat 1000 - 1200 bucks. Looks like porting the exhaust manifolds are the less expensive way to go. I'd take 15 to 20 hp for 200.00 over 30 - 35 hp for 1000 - 1200 any day.

Nope, no one wants to put them into production. Think about it, we have about (guessing) 40,000 to 60,000 cars that were made with the LS4 and hundreds of thousands made with the V-6's. This is why they have headers and we do not. I say ported exhaust manifolds with a nice coating of jet-hot or equivilent. Trust me, I want headers too but I just can't justify the price for them.

I've pretty much lost interest in modding the LS4. I may get motivated and bolt the LS6 intake on one of these days, but I'm kind of beyond caring one way or the other. Going to keep driving it as a grocery getter until it's used up.
With governments and unions now owning most of GM, I doubt I'll ever buy another GM vehicle. Look at the exciting cars and wonderful build quality that socialism brought to British Leyland before its ultimate, and well deserved, demise.
Still paying more attention to the Fiero these days than the GXP. Have accumulated most of the parts to turbo the 3.1 that's going into it. Just think, at about 280 hp, 4 speed manual, rear wheel drive, 2650 lbs - I stand a greater chance of breaking into the 12's with a dinky 60* V6 than with the GXP.
I actually found myself thinking about getting a Mustang to play with yesterday. The aftermarket for the Rustang is awesome - including the 4.6 and 5.4 modular engines - in about 10 minutes on the web I found headers, superchargers, intercoolers, cams, turbos, transmissions, rear ends, suspension, brakes and the list just keeps going on and on....

see as funny as it is there is a part of me that likes how much of a bitch these are to mod.... i mean every person has their own solutions i think it takes a bit more skill and knowlege to get power from these than to buy a bunch of stuff to bolt on easy i mean whats the fun in that? i guess im just lucky that my last project (69 firebird conv) was a way bigger pain in the *** than this thing is.
ps
mustang? serious?

I have always had special cars. And have alway's delt with the lack of cheap main stream support. However that is part of the draw for me . And i like challenge of making stuff work , doing research, test fitting. experamenting.

I'll just keep the GXP as is and enjoy it for what it is.
Mustang? Yeah I'm seriously considering one as the next project vehicle. But since we just purchased a new house that's considerably more expensive than the one we own now, I can kiss my disposable income goodbye for a few years....won't be starting any new projects for a while.
