Default Aftermarket Rims

I changed my rims to aftermarket 20" rims and I have the tire light on in my SS. I looked through the HP Tuner and don't see a way to turn it off, anyone know of a way?

Did you not swap the TPMS. IF not the only way to turn it off is via GM scan tool

If you're not swapping them, I think the only way to turn it off is have the dealer do it. Some dealers will turn the system off, others will not. IIRC, I think buffaloSS could have had his turned off when he had an issue when he first got his new wheels. Or I could be making that up haha. I thought I remember that though.

Find a better dealership and sneak a $20 to the tech...miracles can happen.

What would it be worth to fabricate a small device that transmitted codes faking the sensors so that the DIC thinks its normal. Can't be that hard?? Would it violate any patent? Bet someone already has something like that. Sounds simple though.

I live with the warning message on the DIC...but I don't have the amber warning light on, so I can just hit a button and turn off the message until the next time I start it. I'm assuming that since Federal law now requires TPMS systems to be active in all new vehicles in the US, this is why the 2007+ models get the amber warning, and my 2006 only gets the DIC message.

I fabricated an airtight PVC chamber that housed the 4 sensors that I stored in the trunk. It worked great for a day or so, but then they "went to sleep." In order to stay active, they need to roll with the wheel, and in the chamber they were dormant after an hour or so of inactivity. I unstrapped the chamber and let it roll around the trunk for a while, which kept them "awake," but the constant banging around led me to put the kabosh on that idea.

IN the wheels...it's connected to the valvestem.

I was real pissed when I found that it wouldn't work. I spent $150 on sensors, that took months to arrive from GMPartsDirect, and spent an hour or so to put it all together. When it held the 32psi, I was "happier than a pig in ****"...but then the error came back.

What a great idea. It sucks that it didn't work out, but one thing is for sure, you have quite the mind, and the skill to pull stuff like this off.

LOL at the hamster wheel, like that commercial the something soul car.

Hey Chris,
How about suspending it in the trunk in between two springs or tight rope/line so that it does not bang around but still gets some momentum. One Line attached to top one to bottom and canister in middle like a double end boxing bag.

Use a smaller diameter pipe and a little longer, put a cable across the truck somewhere and attach a couple of eye hooks to the pipe...

I considered doing something smaller, but it would be tough to fit all of the sensors inside. Also, I never really looked at one closely enough to determine if they can be separated from the stem (safely - w/o breaking the sensor)...b/c w/o the stem, they're much smaller, and I could use a standard valvestem to get the air into the chamber.

As far as hanging it, IDK if it would get enough movement to make it work. It was nice b/c I had the chamber strapped to the onstar box out of sight, but then this issue came up. It's been sitting in my front hallway ever since.

Frankly, I don't care anymore since it's just one button press away from (temporarily) disappearing...not so for those of you w/the amber TPMS light. I intend to eventually get them installed in the wheels the right way. They need to be fixed to the inner surface of the wheel with metal pipe strapping and some 3M tape...but I haven't felt the need to spare the cash to dis & remount the tires, and do the work that needs to be done. Hell, I haven't even rolled the fenders to get the right-rear to stop rubbing

FWIW, these sensors can often be found (used) on ebay for $70-80 for the set, sold by LKQ parts recycling.

Oh yeah...the fact that it looks like a pipe bomb in my trunk is no good if I get pulled over & searched...lol.

Another reason to save up for a Tech II. I saw them on ebay or somewhere a bit ago for like half price. Less than 4k...
