Summit Fully Welded Mufflers
#42
120 sounds like alot man. cut the old mufflers off and clamp them on yourself and bring it over and see what they charge you. i did the whole header back on my 80 and they only charged 45 to weld it up for me.

The thing is, if you look at the inlet on the muffler it is right at the bend. You will have to cut the pipe flush right at the muffler to give you a half inch or so of pipe to clamp to. This is a joint that needs to be welded.
That is one of the reasons I went ahead and bought the MagnaFlow system. Plus I got it for a great price! So it was only like $200 more to go with the MagnaFlow, and I could do it myself, in an hour or so in my driveway.

Yeah, I forgot to mention the $120 install is actually them, cutting off old mufflers/tips and welding the new ones on with a pipe to the tips. I think $120 would be way too high to have done if they were using clamps, but for welding, it doesn't sound bad. Thanks for everyones input and help.

Well, I just called Hammond Muffler and they quoted me $80. Much better than the $120 every one else wanted. Saturday can not come soon enough! This place was actually recommended to me, so I'm hoping for quality work.

I guess I've turned this into a little project thread... Here's an update!
The tips came in yesterday and they look like they are going to fill in the bumper cut-outs perfect! I also put 3 coats of Dulpicolor High Temp Engine Paint (gloss black) on the mufflers. I taped off about a 1/4 inch on the inlet/outlet for welding purposes.
Another thing, I couldn't believe how much smaller the Summit Race Mufflers are compared to the stock mufflers. It's like 2/3 the side if not smaller. I can't wait to hear it.

I got the exhaust done Saturday morning. The shop welded everything together for $80, and I think the work was done very well. The guys at the shop were quiet, but nice and willing to answer questions, let me take pictures, and watch the whole time.
As far as how it sounds, I couldn't be happier. In total I spent a little over $60 for the mufflers, $60 for the tips, and $80 for install, totaling $200. Now it isn't going to perform like the Magnaflow cat-back, but for 1/3 of the price, I'll take it!!! It sounds mean, deep, and aggressive. I've been getting a lot of looks. It isn't too loud to annoy the neighbors, but you'll hear it coming.

Thanks! Yeah the tips fill the cut outs perfect.
Thanks a lot! I personally like the look of the stock tail lights and the way the contrast with the car. I'll be leaving them. Plus, I think NiteShades can look really cheap on certain applications. Thanks for the tip though.
