Default IAT Temperatures

I have been trying to rduce my IAT temps lately and am wondering where exactly that sensor is or if it is just part of MAF
its been between 75 and 95 outside, my IAT usually starts around 120 and then will drop to within 10 degrees of the temp outside. im going to try to get these as low as possible these

Yes the IAT sensor is an internal part of your MAF sensor.
You can get a Heat Soak Reduction kit from Vector Motorsports, which bypasses the internal unit and allows you to mount the new temp sensor out and away from the engine but it must be in the intake airflow.

interesting see the thing about that is if the iat is reading hotter doesnt that mean it will be adding less fuel than it would and running rich is generally a problem for these cars right? just a thought probably wrong though

Less fuel = leaner / More fuel = richer

Hot air less dense / Cold air more dense

Hotter IAT temps take away timing. The more timing that is taken away the less power the engine will make.

yeah, what Mgpeagle said.... it pulls timing based on IAT's... has nothing to do with fuel...

maybe ill try wrapping the MAF or something similar to keep temps down

I tried wrapping mine a couple years ago too... what I found was, it took longer for the MAF housing to get hot and for the IAT's to go up, but it also took longer for it to cool down and get rid of the heat that the wrap was now holding in...

so, I removed my wrap... and while it does get hotter faster, it also cools down a lot faster since the air is able to blow around it once you're moving, and there's nothing holding the heat in around it...

Timing doesn't get pulled for high temp until the iat reaches 86*. Get a hsrk, and mount somewhere cool, however it does not have to be in the intake track. Mine in my TBSS is in the grill, my Impala hsrk sensor was wedged just in front of the stock intake box inlet.
