The corvettes have the Bose amplifier with the NAV unit, we have the Monsoon amplifier with the same NAV unit.
I was the one who posted the "How-To" and have done the coversion myself. I can tell you that it costs a lot more then $500 to get a decent aftermarket in-dash Nav system. Most new HUs start at around $600, you'll spend another $50 or so in a mounting kit and harness adapter, PLUS, it's another $150 or $200 if you want to retain SWC and OnStar, as well as your turn-signal chimes, etc.
My car came with Bose, and I payed $485 for the Nav unit that came with the map disc and antenna, spent another $25 for the VSS harness (admittedly no longer available through JP Customs), and spent another $50 on dealer TechII programming. So, for under $600, I have a factory system that may lack a few features of aftermarket HUs, but works flawlessly with the factory accessories and is less of a theft target.
It's also never given me a wrong a turn, and voice guidance chick sounds kinda hot (though my wife may disagree!).
It's pretty easy to make your own VSS wire, since the company that sold them for $25 went under.
