Default New to Forum, Got Questions!

Hello Everyone,

I have recently bought an '08 Impala SS and I wanted to to get some advice.

1: I will be covering a lot of miles (25-30k a year). Do these cars wear high mileages well and is there anything to look out for?

2: Are the transmissions as weak as everyone says? If so, are there any things I should be doing (such as regular fluid flushes) to lessen the risk of tranny failure?

3: Has anyone got the Eibach lowering spring kit, and if so please can you post pictures? Also, does it help reduce body roll?

4: Is premium fuel really necessary?

5: Is it possible to keep these cars in alignment? My dealer struggled.

6: Who has the best HID headlight kit for this car?

So far I love the engine, the understated looks, the highway mileage, the roomy cabin and the surpised look on people's faces when they get blown into the weeds by a "rental car".

I am not so keen on the ride quality. The suspension seems to do nothing well, being stiff enough to make the ride uncomfortable but still failing to iron out bumps or control pitch, body roll and 'float' on the highway. Any tips to improve suspension/handling?

Thanks in advance for your advice, I will be posting some pictures soon.

ssc is the popular lowering kit for these cars, ddm tuning has the reallly good hid kits for cheap, i put 93 octane in mine and thats it.

Stock and lightly modded my car went into KR very easily, couldn't throw much timing at it at all. Even now, I'm still not running much (by LSx standards)...to keep Knock retard from killing performance I would run premium.

I have a GXP. My daily commute is 104 miles round trip. I have almost 40k miles on it with no problems at all. It's 100% stock for now but that should change here in the next week or two.
As far as alignment. The rear tires on mine are bad. The fronts look great. I asked on here (few pages back) and I was advised to get camber bolts. I got mine from the local store, pretty cheap. However I don't have them in yet, soon though.
I do mostly use 87 but occasionally I'll put the good stuff in it.

I use 93 octane gasoline, but it really all depends on the quality of the gasoline. For example: 93 octane gas at "Quick Fill" is not the same as it is at sunoco. I ONLY use SUNOCO If the pumps are down at my normal gas station, I travel the extra couple of miles to the next Sunoco

i only run 91+ octane fuel(nothing better in my town), i have the ssc lowering kit and love it, and i slotted my struts to allow for camber adjustment and have had 0 issues with unusual wear.(plus it was free compared to buying camber bolts) and i buy hids from a lad i know here so i cant help you out there. As for the trannys, they suck lol best off to buy a TEP tranny or another built trans if you want it to last very long even lightly modded.

Added a pic for you to see.

Thanks for the pic, that's a good looking ride! I am definitely gonna do the SSC springs ASAP.

Judging from what everyone has been saying about fuel, looks like I'll keep using Amoco Ultimate.
