Default Rebuilt Tranny makes winding sound

I just had a rebuild put in under warranty. The car is running and shifting great but in R and in low gears I can hear the transmission making a winding sound. It almost sounds like a Turbo or something. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Haha yeah a buddy of mine says "it actually sounds pretty badass"... nonetheless I wanted to make sure that this was not going cause issues down the road. How many miles do each of you have on yours?

Anyone else have the winding sound?

I hear ya Centex... but ive gotten to be "that guy" at the dealership and they probablly roll their eyes everytime they get a phone call from me... Just want to make sure Im not whining about something thats not an issue before I do it.

Any ideas on what could cause it? The old tranny never made a noise like this.

That's why I'd be talking to your service manager. **** happens, I work at a dealership - and that's the sort of thing personally I wouldn't find as an annoyance. These trannies are already the weak part of our cars, and they fixed it, but it's not quite right.

I want a TEP tranny, but in my eyes there's no point because I end up buying a new car every three years anyway . So for me, it would be a waste of time and money.

Just talked to the svc mgr and he agreed that it was a little out of the ordinary.. going by tomorrow to have a tech listen in...

So for the other two that experience the same problem, maybe another rebuild on its way?

Lead tech at the dealership says the sound is coming from the Torque Converter, which was included in the rebuild they just put in. They are ordering the part and will replace it.

That's cool. At least they knew what the problem was and are in the midst of fixing it!!!

Yup, mine did that too in my first re-build. Made the trans run hot after a while. Was really bad in the winter time. Sounded like a bad power steering pump. With the new trans. and t.c. there is no whine at all. So if you are getting that you may want to check and or replace the t.c. Good luck with it, Chief.
