The cam will help your car, but the truck engines were very limited by their stock cam's and intake manifolds.....they were designed for torque...not power which is why they always pick up such a dramatic amount of power.
I agree, the LS4 IS based off the LS2......................

They ARE different in the fact that they have different engine mounts...............

If the truck's intake and cam were made for torque then how do you explain the LS4's straw sized intake opening behind the TB or how about that anemic cam? Don't forget those amazing exhaust manifolds.

Well as stated some have went big with cams and not seen much gain.. we have restriction in the intake, and exhuast that the trucks dont have. We still have a good compression ratio and good heads. So this "smaller" cam may be the key.

no one has posted dyno results from a cam yet except me....and that as an ls6 cam and it gained me nothing. i will be HOPEFULLY getting my car back tomorrow and i will have it on the dyno in about two weeks so we will see for sure.

also the IRON BLOCK 5.3 truck engine is completely different. ya all push rod engines more or less work the same and will respond to mods similarly but that's like saying a 6.1 hemi is the same as an ls3

Please explain to us what's different FROM A HP MAKING ASPECT????? I'm going to say this one last time THE INTERNAL ARCHUTECHURE IS EXACTLY THE SAME. When you've swapped out pretty much everything except for the block and heads your left with an LS based engine, nothing at all like a hemi, but exactly like the internals of a truck block.

I'm with you on this one 100%. I really don't see where the confusion is. One is cast in iron, the other in aluminum. The LSx vs Hemi argument is just wrong.

i have everything ready for a lifters/TR224 with some different gaskets/milling for some compression...but i dont have the ls6 intake so i think the gains are going to be negligible. i want to sell this to get something more performance friendly but if i can't move the car, i guess ill just drive it into the ground.

ya the intake made the biggest difference, if you can do the work yourself than go for it. If you need to pay a shop, i say screw it

This is terrible news. Honestly and realistically, your not going to make more than 360 ish whp with this engine NA.

NACHO, without the intake forget about getting nice gains.

yup thats the main reason why the parts are on the floor in my room not in the car. i cant swing the ls6 intake right now cash wise, not to mention all the little odds and ends that need to be tied up with that mod.

true story, I can understand that. As a side, have you thought about putting in bigger valves and porting as well?

well i didn't put much thought into what i'm going to do with the heads because the intake is/was my main concern. I was thinking maybe a light port on the combustion chambers, a machine job on the face...and some new gaskets. nothing special really. who knows, its all conjecture though since i probably won't end up doing it.

I see, well a budget idea would be just milling for the compression bump. Something around 11.0:1 would be great with a nice cam.
