Default How to tell if DoD is working?

Just as it says... I'm trying to gauge how much I actually use this. I drive 54 miles of interstate, 30 miles of highway and the rest city/ country road.
However I still only average 20 mpg. The open road has some elevation changes and whatnot...
Basically if I rarely use it, I'm getting rid of it.

Flat roads, under 75, sounds very different. With exhaust it's a lot more noticeable.

Don't the SSes have an indicator?

Well if that's the case it would rarely be on... If that is the case good deal...

Has anyone improved mileage by eliminating DoD?

Your mileage should be higher than that...unless you're dragging. I've gotten high 20's at 65-70 on cruise. We average 22 with town and climbing the "summit" everyday on way to work.

Get ahold of Lew (06MonteSS) to tune. That'll help big time.

Thanks,
Tom

I recently (400 miles ago) had Lew write me up a tune to turn the system off. In comparision to the old tune he wrote for me (which kept it in V4 mode more often than stock), I am getting ~12% less mileage, or the equivalent of paying $0.35 more a gallon. I will run it for a few thousand miles and see where it ends up at before I decide to keep it tuned out or not. I run a lot of highway miles, so the results of someone who runs around town more often may be very different.

Ah that's not cool. Yeah most of my driving is highway. If I'm very careful I can average 21.9 ~ 22.0.

18.8 average for the last year, almost entirely stop-and-go city driving, but with a couple of miles of freeway thrown in. (Based on my last fill, the Legacy gets 22.5 for the same commute.)

I gained 2mpg since I disabled my DOD 4.5 years ago...

correct... if you do a LOT and mostly highway driving, then DOD will help you...

if you don't then it will hurt you...

my driving is 50/50 town/highway driving... and for me, the DOD hurt...

as I mentioned, I gained 2mpg after I disabled it...

lower octane burns faster... as such, it doesn't get a chance to burn all of the fuel, it's more of a flash ignition... so you don't get the most efficient use/performance of all the fuel, since it's not all being burned...

higher octane burns slower, so it's considered more efficient, since more of the fuel is actually being used/burned to provide performance...

so yes, you'd probably get better mileage with a higher octane fuel...

How do you tell? Like this (see LED in pic)

I was amazed at how much it is actually on, and how often it goes on and off without being able to feel it. On cruise it is pretty invisible.

And I notice between 2-4 mpg higher with DoD on, on the highway.

On the way in to work I tried to pay more attention and keep speeds a little lower (I typically run interstate at 80) and I did notice it on a lot more just by looking at the instant display.

I took a trip from New Jersey to Maryland...Deeeeep in Maryland and it was about 90% highway. I hardly gunned it and kept it on cruise control at about 65-70 mph range. When i stopped at a local Sunoco on the way back, i put 25 bucks premium in it which filled it up and i got 330 miles on the tank. All in all, for a daily driver, this car is very good if you have the DoD on and if you do alot of highway driving.
