Default "bog" under acceleration

A weird thing happened tonight on my way home. I was following a way too slow car on the highway, when he finally exited I decided it was time to go and punched the gas.... The car reacted as if I were opening up a big set of secondaries on a Rochester Q-jet.... it bogged for a moment then took off.. has anybody else ever noticed this?? I was running about 50 ish at the time so I know it wasn't the TC kicking in (I have had this happen on "spirited" take offs before and I just attributed it to the TC coming on as the traction light flickers) Is this another sign that the Tranny is about to puke???

I've had the same problem for about a month. At 65mph when you try to accelerate slowly the car falls on its face, the RPMs drop by a couple hundred. It has crept its way to a slower speed, it does it at about 35mph now. At WOT its fine but at 1-70% throttle it dies. Damn torque converter engaging and disengaging as it feels like.

Thank God its under warranty for another 2 1/2 years and 30k some odd miles.

I've got 51K on mine.

My torque converter is/has been gone for nearly 30k now. RPM oscillation under light throttle and all that. Never bogged at speed, though.

Remove and clean your MAF(CRC maf sensor cleaner) and do not touch the elements with anything but the cleaner. Also remove and clean the throttle body(throttle body cleaner and a toothbrush) clean it really well, excersing the butterfly to its limits gently.
After reinstall, start engine and allow it to idle (no load) 1 min. Then turn on all power acc, and apply brake, put in gear and sit for 2 min., return to park and return loads to normal. Then drive as you wish.

The car has almost 43,000 miles on it now. Ok now to show my ignorance, where is Mass airflow sensor located?? Use the Throttle body cleaner on it too??

Lew, I am planning on getting a tune, as soon as I replace the front wheel bearing (scheduled next Monday) then when the tranny finally dies and I install a TEP tranny... I don't want to rush the death of my original tranny though..

AG, my rpms flutter as well when cruising, every once in a while the tach will jump a couple of hundred RPM and then settle down, once the converter locks up it will hold steady

The MAF is the large black cylinder thingy in the intake tube prior to the throttle body.
DO NOT USE THROTTLE BODY CLEANER ON THE MAF.
(IT HAS SPECIAL SENSORS IN ITand DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREEN)
As for your rpm flutter... Wait until you have cleaned as recommended and put 50-100 miles on it then report back if the flutter/rpm hunt is still there.

I'm still on my original tranny, at 98,900 miles... no issues, strong as ever man... don't sweat it... don't let others horror stories scare ya... well, unless yours is slipping and on the way out already hahah...

and I don't drive like grandma either!!! my car regularly sees 100 mph, spirited launches from lights, kick it down from 60mph on the highway to "pass" people...

as for the MAF sensor cleaner, this is what you need:

I get it at my local autozone...

differential anti-score protection, bet you turned the wheels to get around him as you had to slow down to under 40MPH as he exited, and then it shifted down into first. You were just spinning the inside tire and the car was protecting itself from what it considers abuse.

I didn't gas it hard enough to break the tires or downshift into low gear, so I don't think the self preservation mode was enacted... I am going to pull the MAF and throttle body early next week and see what I find. I will then report back. Thanks for the help!!

Lew, I am pretty sure the tranny is on its way out, so I am not planning any mods as of yet

If he's spinning at 35 or 40 we need track times.

Spinning your tires at 40 does you no good if you can't spin them at 25... I really need to find time to advance my cam.

By the way, correctly clocking the MAF is just as important as cleaning it. Because the LS4 has a bend shortly after the MAF and because the sensing elements are on only one side of the divider, the MAF is really sensitive to being rotated. I've chased my own tail with that one, to the tune of +/-5% or so for relatively small changes. Your fuel trims will save you from any real trouble, but it can force you stupid rich at WOT.

Can someone explain to me again how to reset again. The part after you have your car idle for 1 min. Do you turn it off after that then turn the key to acc?
