Default Dyno Tune at New Era Performance

Hey guys,
I have the GXP at new era performance here in Rochester, NY getting a dyno tune. For background purposes, I have a cold air intake, shift kit, and exhaust with resonator delete. 29000 miles.

The car just put down 247hp and 271ftlb of torque. Let's see what Mike (owner of New Era) can work out of her...

Well as LS1Racing mentioned, the car was super lean. Mike said that he tuned a LS4 last year which was the same way. The GXP ended up putting down 256.7hp and 287.5ft-lb of torque. I am quite pleased with that result, given my merely slight modifications.

The car drives awesome. It isn't a night and day difference but you can feel it pull smoother and harder. The best thing Mike did was turn off DoD. I would pay him that money again just for that. No more helicopter drone while cruising on the highway.

A few shout outs here. First is to Lew. Thanks for consulting with me on my plans even knowing that I could not hire you due to product support. You were a fantastic help in getting me familiar with what I wanted.

Second is to New Era Performance. Mike took my modest car (compared to the crazy stuff they have at their shop, twin turbo Z06) and was very upfront about what to expect and limitations of what we have to work with. He did undersell himself though. This tune was the best money I have spent on the car.

Well fellow LS4ers, if you have similar mods, here is what you are looking at. I feel as if this was my final mod and will probably just drive the GXP from here on out.

Dynosheet is attached. Video below.

247 HP at the wheels is within the range of what would be considered normal for these cars in stock form. The CAI and exhaust mods you have give very little if you're not tuned. My experience with stock tuning is that there's not enough fuel and too much spark advance, which helps emissions, but hurts mileage and performance.

I imagine that you'll be in the 260-270 range if New Era gets you a half-way decent tune.

I was just surprised at how much is lost in the drivetrain. Also, Mike commented how incredibly lean the car was running.

Yeah...With the stock program, you'll see near-constant knock retard because it's calibrated too lean. Your CAI probably even leaned it out more. Just make sure Mike adjusts the part-throttle fuel tables, as well. This will improve your drivability and mileage.

BTW- What was your torque on that first run? I know that our cars have high-stall (for a stock car) converters, and that will show up as a high torque reading on a dyno. I think it also will sap HP, which explains the drivetrain loss.

I put down 245/275 before tuning with just a downpipe. 258/278 after tuning. This was back in 2007.

Nice improvements, especially the torque.

Judging from your baseline pull, you had a ton of knock retard, which is indicated by the wavy lines... The PCM is pulling timing when it sees knock, then adds it back in, only to see knock again, so it pulls timing, etc.

It's amazing how these cars respond to a tune. Look at how flat your torque curve is now, compared to where it was, not to mention that you now have more UNDER the curve.

All I can say is, "Well done!"

They had the car on the rack for over 2 hours and did three pulls. They really took their time with it. I paid $400, but it could vary with how much time they need to spend on it. That, I guess would depend on your mods... It's best just to call. Totally worth it.

I tuned mine there last year. New Era did a nice job on it. Now that I have the DT Headers i want to bring it back for a re-tune and see how much i picked up.

hmmm those numbers make me confused ..... I have a CAI, Hogan DP w/ hi flo cat, and magaflow cat back and put down 269 hp/275 tq after vector's dyno tune. Based on your numbers, the difference between us (a cat back and a down pipe) gained me 13 hp over you, but you have 13 more tq then me? The horse power seems right to me, but and torque numbers make me fell like Anyone have any thoughts on what could be the difference?

our dyno(vector)is a mustang, not sure what new era has?.also you cant really compare dyno for dyno.my ta makes different numbers between my vector mustang dyno and the one i have at the brighton location. just my 2 cents tho.

ya that would make sense, but when someone saids 290 with what he had I think thats a hot dyno, o well I'll be back at your shop in a few months to get the next batch of my mods done. hopefully then I will have a legit 300 at the wheels
