275/40 on the stock front wheels and 245/45 on the stock rear wheels.

There's a couple of bad transes floating around, but more people don't have problems.

And they Alcoas are harder to find if one gets scuffed.

Lastly, the GTOs and G8s have their problems, too.

I wouldn't get a GXP if you drive 20,000 miles a year, but if you're like me and only drive at most 4,000 a year, then I don't see why it would be a bad car. bigalnash must have gotten a lemon or drive a lot of miles.

Your experience is sort of skewed since you bought a GXP rental.

I have had mine for 5k now and love it. Although my back struts were making an odd noise but they were under warranty and got it fixed. They billed GM $1300.

It's a good riding car. I like the heavy/firm feeling while driving. Mine is stock except for the Magnaflow system which is amazing btw. You can still have fun with it, but don't except to go ***** to the wall all the time with it because your wallet will hate you.

I've read a lot about putting a shift kit in it and installing a "heavier duty" trans cooler. Any advice as to what exactly i should install in the car to protect the transmission?

Mine was a rental with 9k miles (it was also D&R about 2500's worth of damage, that's why my front clip peeled so bad, first time I've mentioned this...), I drive 18K miles a year, 1 alignment since I've owned it, 3rd set of front tires, 2nd set of rear tires, trans was replaced at 40,500 though, and my AC Failco battery died, a few interior lights out (replacing with a different color eventually anyway), and I'm 6'3" I have plenty of headroom. People have bad experiences with every kind of car.

I don't know why they put 'special' tires on it, my Rikens didn't torque steer bad, and my 275s really don't.

Regardless of the minor problems it has, I love the hell out of it and it still has//had less problems than my '02 GP GT and my '87 RX-7.

Also, Mel's '06 SS only has 3000 miles.

You and Chris just need to take losses and get rid of your cars.

I got one that was under a GM certified warranty...just something to think about. Granted it was only a 1 year/12,000 year warranty but it was bumper to bumper and saved me a few bucks for this past year.

I didn't have a lot of problems but the ones I did have were covered ( ie: dash lights, ISS, climate control sensor, shifter light... I think that's been it.

How many miles are on it? Any trans problems? Did you install a aftmarket trans cooler?

I'm a little late but I would buy the car again if I had a chance and I have had more than a few problems but I don't think the owner before me took care of the car at all. But the major problem I had was covered by the warranty (Trans went).

The special tires have thicker sidewalls and a tread pattern GM said helped the car not torque steer. I clipped a median making a left hand turn last year (a car across from me scared me pulling out, and I jerked to the left) and those sidewalls are definitely thick and full of steel. Made a huge bubble on the sidewall, which fortunately protected the wheel, but unfortunately ruined the tire. I don't know how much thicker the sidewall is than a regular tire--I'm just going off what I read in a review years ago.

Try to get one that's still on warranty that you can extend and the potential transmission issue won't bother you. I bought my '06 January 2009 and extended the warranty until 2012. If you buy one this year, I assume an '07 GXP would still be on warranty...? If you wait til next year, you'll have to get an '08...?

It has just over 52,000 on it right now. No I didn't install a trans cooler, but I did get a tune which helped out with the trans quite a bit.

o don't be so cacicgtp7 has a tune by IMHO one of the best tuners of these cars, will from overkill performance. If you can someohow get a hold of the guy it's well worth your time. If you can't dyno tune it I personally think Will make the best canned tune out there.

Will from overkill motorsports is indeed one of the best tuners for these cars.

He's local to me, so I was fortunate to have him in car tune me a couple of times.

Everyone was telling me to go early 06 or earlier and said to stay about from 07 and 8s for some reason how much did it cost you to extend the warrenty?

I think it was around $1200 to add those extra years on. I already knew the transmissions in these cars were a bit weak before buying the car, and knew that was cheaper than the typical rebuild.

Since I was paying by check for the car, they gave me a free upgrade on the warranty, like an extra 10,000 miles or something. It's hard to remember. The lame thing is, I remember I had to pay to extend the warranty from the date the car was born, which was a new, lame policy GM made up for 2009+. Meaning, in order to get it extended to 2012, I had to buy a 6 year warranty (2006+6=2012). The guy told me that in 2008 and previously, that wasn't the way warranties worked. I would have only had to of bought a 3 year one. Given the fact I bought the car on I believe January 9, 2009, I was a little frustrated I didn't find the car in December lol.

I bought the car from the local Pontiac/Buick/GMC in 2009, so the car was still on the factory 3 year warranty by the way. I don't know how you would reinstate the car if it expired or you bought the car from somewhere other than a GM dealership.
