Buy a GXP?
There's a couple of bad transes floating around, but more people don't have problems.
And they Alcoas are harder to find if one gets scuffed.

Lastly, the GTOs and G8s have their problems, too.

I have had mine for 5k now and love it. Although my back struts were making an odd noise but they were under warranty and got it fixed. They billed GM $1300.
It's a good riding car. I like the heavy/firm feeling while driving. Mine is stock except for the Magnaflow system which is amazing btw. You can still have fun with it, but don't except to go ***** to the wall all the time with it because your wallet will hate you.

I don't know why they put 'special' tires on it, my Rikens didn't torque steer bad, and my 275s really don't.
Regardless of the minor problems it has, I love the hell out of it and it still has//had less problems than my '02 GP GT and my '87 RX-7.
Also, Mel's '06 SS only has 3000 miles.
You and Chris just need to take losses and get rid of your cars.
I didn't have a lot of problems but the ones I did have were covered ( ie: dash lights, ISS, climate control sensor, shifter light... I think that's been it.

Try to get one that's still on warranty that you can extend and the potential transmission issue won't bother you. I bought my '06 January 2009 and extended the warranty until 2012. If you buy one this year, I assume an '07 GXP would still be on warranty...? If you wait til next year, you'll have to get an '08...?
cacicgtp7 has a tune by IMHO one of the best tuners of these cars, will from overkill performance. If you can someohow get a hold of the guy it's well worth your time. If you can't dyno tune it I personally think Will make the best canned tune out there. He's local to me, so I was fortunate to have him in car tune me a couple of times.
Since I was paying by check for the car, they gave me a free upgrade on the warranty, like an extra 10,000 miles or something. It's hard to remember. The lame thing is, I remember I had to pay to extend the warranty from the date the car was born, which was a new, lame policy GM made up for 2009+. Meaning, in order to get it extended to 2012, I had to buy a 6 year warranty (2006+6=2012). The guy told me that in 2008 and previously, that wasn't the way warranties worked. I would have only had to of bought a 3 year one. Given the fact I bought the car on I believe January 9, 2009, I was a little frustrated I didn't find the car in December lol.
I bought the car from the local Pontiac/Buick/GMC in 2009, so the car was still on the factory 3 year warranty by the way. I don't know how you would reinstate the car if it expired or you bought the car from somewhere other than a GM dealership.
