255 45r18 on a Monte Carlo SS
Have any of you Monte guys run a 255 45r18 on a stock 18 inch wheel? The overall diameter is only .8% off of the factory 235 50r18. I just want to make sure they will not rub on the rear strut. I am sure some of you have done this, right? Thanks in advance.

I have 255's on all 4 corners on the GXP. The GXP has a 7" rear rim and it works fine and does not rub. It also cut down on a lot of torque steer. I feel it handles better too. I got all 4 at onlinetires dot com for 378.00. Cheapest place I have found for tires.

I'm currently running 255/45/18's on 8" wide wheels. It's an impala, with aftermarket wheels, so that may not help you. They DO RUB on the back, only when the vehicle is loaded down and running over bumps. If I would roll the fenders it would be ok. Please do not put 255's on the stock wheels. Just looked at the stock impala wheels in the garage and they are only 7" wide, the look and ride would be terrible. Find some nice wheels to put those tires on! Just my opinion.

look on the web to see if any tire or rim manufacture shows that size being acceptable on less than an 8" rim. (the MCSS is 7"). Hint: you won't find one. There is a reason for it. They don't consider it safe. That sidewall breaks the seal against that rim on a steering wheel at speed and you have a very serious problem.

My rear tires do not bulge (at least not bad at all) and I've been running them for almost 1 year. No sidewall problems here. I say go do it, you'll be very happy. You'll see.

I have a 06 monte carlo ss and im running 255/45 18 nitto 555 and i have no problems with rubbing. I thought the front was going to rub but it did not. They are not easy to put on because they are oversized. The only problem i am having is that i cannot get an alignment because the tire fits to tight to the rim the sensors cannot ft onto the rim.
