my pos 1990 olds gets 24mpg. I have seen the GXP gets around that. it is 7 miles to get to the freeway from my house then 41 miles straight up the freeway to school. I am not worried about gas mileage, I was debating on getting a truck so I could haul my dirtbike but then decided on another car and put a hitch on it with my small trailer behind it. truck=13mpg gxp=24mpg.

you are betting wrong... and id show him the tranny specs just to make sure... im not sure if a tranny rebuild would show on carfax.. if not ask him if it was... if it wasn't and its still the original you dont got much time.. wheel bearings are very common on these cars. u can probably find some on ebay for cheap opposed to the 500 a bearing the dealer will charge... talk em to down to 8 and use the rest to get tires, and hud fixed.. and align it once-twice a year...

I work at an auto parts store so parts are much cheaper then dealerships. I don't think they know any history on the car, I am pretty sure they got it from an auction.

I agree, I am pretty sure the wheel bearing is bad on it also. I will be talking with them monday about it as long as I can get financed.

nice lincoln area as in nebraska? i am jw bc i have been to that dealership and looked at 2 of them in lincoln nebraska. and i know of a few dealers in the nebraska iowa south dakota area with gxp's. btw the dealership 10 miles from my place just sold a silver gxp with 100k for 6500 so i think that the one you are looking at is a little over priced.

no, lincol dealership as in lincoln and mercury dealership. It is in Bloomington, MN. I can't find one any cheaper then 12k online with even similar miles on it. I am going to try yo get them to do it for 10,500 with the new wheel bearing (if that is for sure the issue) new front tires and the HUD working. If not then I will move on and find something else I suppose.

EDIT: I just did a search on auto trader within 500 miles of my house and the cheapest one on there was $10,700. If I get it for 11k out the door with new tires and wheel bearing and HUD then I will be happy about the purchase.

You're only kidding yourself if you believe this. The common failures items (some of which have aready happened on the car you're looking at now) have nothing to do with taking care of the car. I mean, how do you take care of wheel bearings? These are sealed hub assemblies so there's no re-packing to do. Same with struts.

The tranny issues seem to happen regardless of how they're cared for. I bought my car with 30k miles and pink fluid in the tranny. Changed the fluid at 45k and the stuff I drained was still pink. Added a huge, motorhome-sized cooler, just to be safe. The trans failed 12k miles laters. Dealer rebuilds it, I put 22k on the rebuild, and it failed again. My wife drives the car and gets all highway miles. There's no way these problems could have been prevented. And if you think I'm the only one complaining about these issues, think again and do a search on this forum.

Not trying to be a dick here, but you need to check yourself. You started this thread wanting to know if the warranty will transfer, and many of us have shared information to give you insight into the problems encountered with these cars. You can choose to take heed or not, I really don't care. But don't come in here and say "Well, if you take care of it, I'm sure it'll be reliable" because you're shitting on a bunch of people who know their cars and take care of them, but have had these problems anyway.

Good luck to you, sir, whatever your decision.

to add to LS1, how about sudden battery failure. you go out in the morning because your running a lil late for your final exam to get your degree. wtf! my car wont unlock, not even with the key, 45 min later finally a lock company/wrecker shows up and opens your door and your thinking "i can still make it to school , glad i got ready early!" and bam your battery dead. ok ill just jump it. **** wont jump at all. so you go to your local parts store thats conveniently right around the corner. you tell them what car you need the battery for . "looks like we can have one here by monday" >>> so moral of the story is no matter what you do these cars arent as reliable as you think. also to add to that, i just had to replace my water pump after it went bad in 2 days. "oh ill do it myself real quick" WHAT you have to have a special tool just to get the belt off, and any place i go doesnt have the tool.. and again just like previous posters said, not trying to be a dick.

I bought my 07 with 56k for 10700 out the door I also work at a Napa store (dad owns it) and im sure youve looked parts up for this car (as i had before i bought it) and even at cost these parts can still be expensive. Plus you know you cant get anything for HUD at napa. I would definitely find a GXP with less issues especially HUD issues best thing ever...

i agree there's just some **** you cant avoid. mine didnt give me trouble till i put 25k miles on it. all be it 25k miles of abuse, but bearings, iss, remote start, radio, tpms ,and battery just nothing that can be done about it. god bless the warranty though.
