My guess is cost, same reason I'm going with an LS1 intake. LS1's can be had for $50-$75 if not less, where as an LS6 is at least $300. Just my guess.
To the OP, I suffer from ****-poor MPG as well. Thankfully I only have a 5 mile drive to work and it's not killing my pocket. The advice that I got was to basically make sure your tire pressure is always correct, and to maybe even try nitrogen. I havent tried the nitrogen thing yet.

Yeah I'm just trying to get the best mileage the car can get Im not expecting 30+ mpg. I would be real happy with 25mpg. What other things could be giving me bad mileage? I baby the **** outta it sometimes and i usually get around 21. What is better with these cars get to speed lil quicker than normal and get dod to kick in or baby it all the way? thanks guys I just wanna get little better outta her especially since a lot of you guys do.

You guys who are resisting getting a laptop tune are missing the boat big time. You can totally tune how you want the AFM to behave. Want no AFM for city driving? No problem. You can have it kick in just for the highway cruising if you want. Want to lean out your A/F mixture when cruising? No problem there. Same with ignition timing. You can custom tailor it to the fuel you run. I know the tunes cost money, but it sure beats pouring fuel out your tail pipe.

I've been driving in manual mode lately and averaging over 16.4 mpg with a little bit of technique. And yes, in the exact same driving conditions--same places, same days, same routes.
In 30 to 35 mph zones (my most common type of driving), I accelerate fairly quickly to 30 or 35 in first gear, shift to second, wait a sec then third, and then wait a sec and then 4th and drive in 4th. On long stretches of rode, I go ahead and set the cruise control. It's helped my mileage quite a lot to not accelerate up to speed using 2nd gear.
If the transmission is above 100 degrees and the engine is fairly warm, in 45 to 70 zones I'll accelerate in first up to about 40 or 50 (close to redline) and then shift into 2nd, get up to speed, then stick it in 4th.
Accelerating to speeds under 40 mph in 2nd really kills your mileage I've found. Also, the only time I really use 3rd is if I'm in a school zone coasting at 20 mph or if I'm accelerating on the highway. Don't accelerate from 50 to 70 in 4th. In fact, don't accelerate in 4th really at all, just use it when maintaining speed using cruise control or coasting without giving any gas.
I've been messing with trying to get better mileage out of this car for almost two years now and this has been the best combination for me.

I average 22-23mpg. 70% highway at 60mph. It can be 90 out or 20 out, I still average that. The remote start is a killer though. I'd love to get a tune but with a valid warranty, I am very apprehensive. Still, 22-23mpg for a v8 is pretty damn good IMO.

I was getting right around 19-20 to/from work which is a 10-mile mix of highway/cityish through the first tank of gas.
Now that I've been using remote start with the cold weather in the last few days, my average is down between 16-17.
I calculated the first tank manually, and it matched the DIC almost perfectly. Haven't calculated again yet, waiting to finish a complete tank after the remote start has been used a bit. It definitely kills it though, I know I lost 2-3mpg when I used the remote start a lot in the winter on my old Jimmy.
I imagine the spark plugs are original 86k mile plugs. I'll be replacing those and buying a couple credits for my HPTuners to dial in the fuel trims and start playing with the DOD/AFM tables. I expect to pick up a couple MPGs from the fuel trims, and then I'll see how aggressive I can be with DOD/AFM.

Well I use marathon gas does anyone know if they mix ethanol with it? Also the exhaust is 3 inch from the headers back to the cutout then it is stock with the mufflers after that no cat. Would the stock exhaust be restricting it that much when I have the cutout closed
