Default Steering Wheel SS Emblem

So I was getting in my car with my snow brush in my hand and dented the right S in the SS Emblem on the steering wheel with the ice scraper.

Anyone know if this piece can be replaced...or am I looking at a whole new air bag/air bag cover?

From a fellow Midlander. I understand why you had the ice scraper out!

That is all!

Pretty bad road's this morning, I am primarily driving on Eastman through the day, although I do have some sideroads I must tackle.

As far as the emblem, I really do not know, I refuse to go to McCardle. Nothing but bad experiences with them.

Ehh, I dented mine a while back by being stupid and punching the wheel because the idiot in front of me was driving to slow. I believe they aren't replaceable unless you get a new airbag assembly, pretty dumb if you ask me. That dent always urks me, every time I look at it, i remember to keep my cool, lol.

Hold on - my airbag is open right now, I will check it out for you

Edit: There emblem is held in by maybe 8 tabs, which are bent around the center of the cover.

but I think the steering wheel SS emblems have prongs or something to that effect! This is weird cause I was thinking of a small project to do with these SS's!

Hey Kazmaniac is the cover that the emblem attaches to also attached to the air bag...or is it just a cover? (how hard is it to remove)

I had my arrow steering wheel emblem replaced under warranty. I got into a argument with my g/f and punched the steering wheel, them the emblem dented. I told the dealer it dented when I honked after someone pulled out in front of me. Anyways, with only 800 miles on the car, I had the airbag and cover replaced. I do not hit my car anymore. FYI, the airbag and cover have to be removed together.

The assy is the steering wheel / air bag cover, which has a circle w/ 8 or so slots. The chrome ring that holds the emblem has fingers that need to be bent around a support rib on the B-side of the sw / ab cover. The airbag is separate from the cover.

Mine deployed and mangled the SS badge, but I couldn't get the emblem out of the housing. I'm sure a thin screwdriver would pop it apart, but the emblem would be ruined.

my brother did the same thing to mine ... when it was his car, and ive been looking for a long time for anyone that has messed with it, without having to deal with the air bag, but even the chevy dealer didnt know how to replace it

it reminds me not to punch it, or punch the gas when getting pissed off ...

something i should have remembered when driving back from my grandparents in arkansas this weekend, i was doing about 125 on 55 north because of people leapfrogging me and getting me stuck in between trucks and having to turn off my cruise control ... thankfully i didnt get pulled over, but i had to pull over in the rest area and calm down

Its VERY easy to remove the emblem, but its junk once you do. You will need to get a new emblem, and as others have said, the SS emblem is nearly impossible to find. The corvette flags from an 07 work perfect though, or just get the bowtie.

The emblem is really very thin stamped aluminum, so those tabs bend up and out very easy with a small flat head screwdriver.

getting the new emblem in and sitting flush is more tricky. You need to really work the tabs so that the go in the slots and sort of bend inward so the hold. Be really careful, because the new emblem will be just as easily bent or dented.

Worst case scenario, cut the tabs of, get some two way tape and stick the emblem on. Not only easier, but may look better (will sit more flush).

Never one heard of this happen, nor do I think it would be the case, nor do i think it would actually cause any damage.. like I said this thing it like a thick piece of aluminum foil... if you airbags deploy are you really worried about a piece of tin killing you?
