Default 06 gp gxp cai-UPDATE!!

now this is for my 06 gp gxp. i don not know if this will work for any other ls4 vehicles. i dont see why it wont though.

items needed.

3 inch pvc - bought at lowes for 5 bucks 2 feet in length

3 inch flexible elbow- lowes 11 bucks

2 in by 15 ft heat wrap- orielly's for 20 bucks

cone filter - depends on brand and where but mine was a spectre from autozone for 25 bucks

flathead screwdriver

torx bit

rachet with 13mm,10mm, 7mm sockets

hand saw

remove front chassis brace over airbox

remove airbox and put MAF right onto the slinky looking tube

unscrew bolts holding inner fender well, headlight, and lower portion of bumper in front of drivers side front wheel

put cone filter in fender well and let lay

then measure pvc from MAF to hole into fender well approx 15 in

put rubber coupler onto pvc

then attach pvc to flex elbow

feed elbow into fender well

attach coupler to maf and tighten clamp

attach filter to elbow, tighten clamps and secure to front clip with zip ties so it doesnt wiggle around

filter is approx 14 inches above the ground at middle of filter.

wrap heat wrap from throttle body to fender well

i secured my heat wrap with safety wire

i then used some industrial strength velcro to attach the ecm to the chassis

finished product is nice. only 1 extra bend. i am hitting the track saturday and will give some input. the wrap should definately keep temps down.

if you find something that works better please post it so we all can use it.

Nice build, but take that INSULATING exhaust pipe wrap off http://www.thermotec.com/products/11...ite-black.html It designed to keep the heat in!

I am using http://www.thermotec.com/products/14...at-shield.html
to block radiant heat and the stuff really works.

Insulation is just a barrier for keeping things hot or cool.

I posted both links so you could compare the different products.
Both serve different purposes.

There was a member on this site who did some data logging with the header wrap, and found that it took a little bit longer for the IAT to heat up. He also noted that the wrap caused the IAT too take much longer to cool down.. so he ended up taking the wrap off.

I really like your handy work.. You have done a lot of Builds on a Budget.

I'm sure the header wrap isn't going to cause any harm.. No worries.
Make sure you get tuned asap, cause the comupter is pretty sensitive to airflow mods. I never noticed tell I started to do some LTFT logs.
When the computer starts to add or subtract fuel during cruise the power enrichment at WOT gets a little messed up. So in order to get maximum performance/Mileage, tuning will be a must. (Obviously way more too it)
IN... SUMMERY... example lol..

When I first bought my car, I took it to the the track and was hitting
14.0-13.9's in the 99mph-ish
I decided later.. to install a Hogan (weld onto cat) downpipe. Once installed I went back out to the track and couldn't bust out of the 14.3's! Same 60ft times and lower mph.. Ended up getting dyno tuned.
Speaking.. of tuning. If you ever do get tuned make sure you have the tuner raise your 2nd-3rd shift point to 5950. Makes a huge difference!

Keep up the good work SGT!

thanks a bunch, when you pay 1500 a month in child support, have 3 cars, 2 bikes, and an amatuer ccs race career going you have to budget well.

car felt good this morning driving to work. i was watching the DIC and noticed a small MPG increase but i wont know for sure until i get home. yesterday before i built the cai i checked my mpg's on my 81 mile round trip to and from work. at the end of the trip i averaged 19.6 mpg. this trip is 74 miles highway at 77 mph, and 7 miles of stop and go, 35 mph roads on post. today i am trying to be identical with the trip. the only difference will be the temperature. yesterdays temp never got higher than 34 degrees. today will be much warmer. i will post the results tonight.

replaced the accordian tube and put a filter over the vacuum on the valve cover

Default update

so...i tried something today. i used my buddies g-tech pro and did some runs with my FWI. i got a pretty accurate 14.51. i did this three times and got a 14.5 on all three. same as my runs at the track. i took the intake apart and bolted the filter back to the MAF just to see what might be happening. 3 runs on the g-tech i got 3 14.1 runs. i went home and started looking at all my pieces. it turns out that the 90 degree bend in this picture is 3 inches on each end and actually only 2.25 inches in diameter in the center. i guess i should have noticed that in the 1st place. time for more research.

I was wondering why your MPH was so low and I think you just figured it out. You should be around 98-99.5 in the 1/4

How far away from the throttle body should the maf be? Does it matter whether its closer or farther away?
