I checked my front four spark plugs. I have a 2006 Monte Carlo SS. The plug all the way to the right had a lot of oil on the threads but the rest of the plug looked pretty good. The other front three looked good and no oil on the threads. Is it bad to have oil on the thread of the plug in the front all the way to the right?

Seems to be normal with this engine. I just changed mine and the number 1 and 7 in from were full of gunk and oil on the threads.

With that mileage, do the wires too. There is a good chance that one or more of the wires could be damaged when removing them to change the plugs. They are due anyway, might as well do them now when it is easy.

You can get the cheaper wires from Autozone or wherever but they will most likely cause KR. Get the good ones, you only have to do it once every 100k or so.

Do you have to change the rear plugs from underneath the car or can you reach them from the top? Never tuned up a car witha transverse motor. Either way it looks like it's gonna be a PITA.

If youve changed plugs on a fwd before, this is 1-2h job max. Rocking the engine forward similar to 3.4 and 3.8 motors works with the fwd 5.3. It only gives 1-2 inches on the back but your knuckles will thank you. While your back there doing rear plugs, you might as well replace the 02 sensor if it needs it

Easiest way I found to change the back row was to remove the coils/bracket. Easy peasy then.

slightly but thats because of the wires being a bitch in the back to pull but its easy. remove the coil bracket 4-5 10mm bolts unclip your 02 and coil pack from the main harness and remove then you have a straight shot at your plugs...BTW go to summitracing.com to get your wires MSD's have great reviews

Just changed my plugs...you were absolutely right. Took me about an hour. Nothing to it...so glad I didn't try to tilt the motor! So not necessary.

Changing transmission fluid/filter in the morning

Any plug experts here? These are my old ones. What does the condition of these tell me about my engine?

By looking at the picture....it looks like your engine is missing 8 plugs. Sorry I had too.

Default Grand Prix GXP Plug Question

2008 Grand Prix GXP
Magna Flow Exhaust
CAI
All Other Equipment is stock

My question: If I intend to do a 3" downpipe, Transcooler, and potentially Thorley Headers, is there any harm with installing the NGK Iridium TR6IX right now? Will these plugs run ok with an almost stock setup?

I called Promax Performance, and the gentleman that answered stated that they generally run as cold a plug as possible when racing. The trade off with the LS4 is going to be either run a colder plug (TR6IX) and have more power, but less plug life, or go with factory recommendation (41-985) and have less power, but more life.

Hmmmm. Decisions, decisions.

Thanks.
