i was on gmhightechperformance.com and stumbled on this.....

2004 Chevy Impala SS with a LS1 V8 engine on the same Wbody FWD platform as the 2006-08 Impala SS,Monte Carlo SS,Grand Prix GXP etc.I wonder why GM pulled the plug on this one,it would have been nice




yeah thats a LS1 V8 under the hood of a FWD Impala SS LoL!

Old concept, the LS1 was old news when the LS4 was made, plus GM wanted to cripple it with DoD to supposedly get an extra mpg out of it.

They couldn't sell a bottom 13sec car in 04, it would be creeping in on vette territory. So they crippled it with the LS4 intake and 325ci

I bumped into a guy the other day who had a 67 Cadillac Eldorado with a 429 V8....FWD! The motor wasn't turned sideways either...one strange set up.

i thought some guy bought that set up and true it in a grand prix. i know he had some custom header setup running under the trans instead of over, and the prototype for the ls4 belt setup.

The LS1 went out of production after MY2004. With the exception of the 2004 GTO, LS1 (non-Vette) cars made 305-325 HP depending upon year and tune. The LS4 was rated 303 HP. And while the LS1s were a but underrated from the factory, the LS4 is in the ballpark.

I don't think this is news, because if you stuck our intake manifolds and exhaust systems on an LS1, the result wouldn't be much better than what we ultimately got in the 5.3.

I remember seeing that car years ago. I wonder if the transmission was stronger than ours? I still think shorty headers might work on our cars with oval pipe running under the oil pan. I just don't like the idea of running exhaust pipe under the throttle body.

Cuz they hate to do whats right most of the time.

If its the right way then some white collar fucktard sees the idea come across his desk and says " whoooaaa wait a minute, this idea is too good but I like it and i will NOT put a highly produced realiable motor in it. Ill scratch this idea make them start over with a different engine... HA HA HA HAAAA! I get paid to much".

The only thing different between out motors and any other lsx is the slightly shortened crank snout...what's unreliable about them?

Agreed. Aside from some piston slap in the early LS1s, these motors are dead-nutz reliable. The only other problem is DoD motor-specific...The lifters. If I ever own another DoD car, I'll definitely get it tuned out.

I hate DOD.. if I wanted a gasser, I'd just get a little 4cyl. I'm still getting 18.6 avg MPG with my combo. I went to the ocean last month and got 26mpg doing 75mph. City driving is what kills. I'm sure with my new gears and converter my MPG will take a serious dump!
