Default yet another question about the cam/ecm, etc LS4

If I used a stand alone ECM (Holley), and replaced the DOD lifters with standard lifters, would the difference in the cam lobes be enough to make the engine run off?

I ask because I actually want to keep the lower HP cam. I'm using this engine in a lighter vehicle (3000 lbs or less)with a 6 speed manual trans. I would like to keep my mpg half decent. With headers, intake and tuning, I think I'll have plenty of HP with the stock cam. THEN...if it's not enough, I'll switch to a standard LS cam.

Anyone have any idea on my original question?

You don't need a stand alone engine management module, if you are replacing the DOD/AFM lifters with normal LS style, then all you need to do is tune out/disable the DOD/AFM when you tune the car.

But aren't the lobes different from the DOD to non DOD lobes? If yes, is it enough to make those cylinders run different?

Cant answer your question..

But if you are rigging it up to a M6 than a standalone might not be a bad idea.....

Well, so far was able to turn off the DOD and auto trans on the ecm. But again, haven't got the combo up and running yet. Might hit up another part of the forum and ask in general about came lobe tolerances.

Lobe lift is slightly lower on the DoD cylinders, but I doubt you'd notice it. The DoD lobes are .482 lift while the non-DoD lobes are .490.

YES! Thankyou. Finally someone able to answer my question. I have skirted around the same question in a couple other threads with no solid answer. I'm not an engine builder so don't know how much is too much.
