I got a B&M cooler put on a while ago and installed it in series with the factory rad. It did the bring the temps down but now with the weather warming up my car easily gets up past 180 again in city driving for like 20 mins. I'm getting an oil change done soon so do you guys think my cooler would be fine/better on it's own rather than in series? Someone suggested it would cool better on it's own since the coolant in the rad from the engine actually heats up the tranny fluid before it leaves.
Both coolers are almost the same size wise but it's either one of these two that I got... don't have the box anymore sorry.

or

Thanks guys.

Coolers will run better without the radiator in the mix. The radiator is already dissipating heat from the engine coolant so instead of keeping the trans fluid cool, it ends up, eventually, heating up the fluid.
I use a 20k unit from TEP, bypassing the radiator. Last year, went though Chicago and 2 hour bumper 2 bumper @ 95 degree heat - coolant never went past 179 degrees.

So you guys figure I would be better off getting the shop to take it out of the loop? How would my cooler compare to your 20k ones? I'm thinking mines only a 9,800 BTU.
I just don't want the temp to get worse and then feel the need to go back in there and get them to switch it back again lol.

9800 BTU is going to be low for our systems, for a stand alone cooler. 9800 would be ok to use the way you are, in conjunction with the radiator. 20k is a pretty safe bet for stand alone use. TEP has a kit, albeit a bit pricy but it includes all the connectors/brackets you would need to bypass.
