Default engine replacement

Hi all, I just bought a 2006 impala ss with a bad engine. Is there any reason I cant use a 2007+ engine? And is there anything I should do to it now before I put the new (junkyard) engine in? I read something about a new oil pan gasket with some kind of shield built on it to reduce oil consumption. It just turned 100k miles and I am planning on keeping the car for a long time.

06 is a Gen 3 with 24x crankshaft and E40 ecm and 07 is a Gen 4 with 58x crankshaft and the E67 ecm, so it isn't a plug and play type deal.

Better off trying to find a 05-06 or rebuilt what you got if there isn't a big hole in the block etc.

Do not get an 07 motor unless you plan to swap cranks or reluctor wheel. I ran into this and you do not want to go through it.

Sounds like they owe him an engine on the house.
