tranny blew again third time
Yeah, they're just as bad as the original stock tranny. I've been warning people about this for the last 3 years. TEP is the only way to go if you don't want to have this problem again.
Do yourself a favor:
Don't dick around with Jasper.
Don't dick around with a GM CERTA
Don't even bother with a rebuild from Joe-Blow from Idaho.
Contact Dave @ TEP, tell him what's happened and work out the details. His street/strip trans costs about the same price as a GM or brand x rebuild, so there's no reason (other than turnaround time) why would go anywhere else. And I have 120,000 miles on a TEP tranny in my Impala to prove that his stuff lasts.
So on your previous rebuild - did you use a stock converter ?? They're a main source of problems with a stock trans...

You are correct in that the relief valve is another issue that contributes to the problem and is easily addressed during a rebuild/ performance build.
The reason I brought it up was to make sure someone put it out there that the stock converter is crap... your better off getting one for a Series 2 3800SC 4t65 or getting a custom stall with the old style converter clutch. IMHO, the worst thing you could do is reuse a stock converter with a rebuild...
