I just wanted to share something that is very simple that i just now realized and it works very well.

So here is the story...


In order to keep my black paint on my monte carlo looking brand new i've basicailly become a detailing expert over the last few years.

I use porta cable buffers and Lake COuntry buffing pads. I use Wolfgangs Swirl remover and chemical guys Jet seal. I use a foam cannon and MR Pink from chemical guys to wash. But whats really aggravating is WATER SPOTS.

If you have a black car you know what light scratches can do. So washing it , drying it , anything to it , you are slightly marring it, no matter how light your touch etc.

I know how to wash my car using the 2 bucket method , rising the rag, then putting it in the soap bucket with lots of soap and water.

But what about drying. I have very good microfiber towels from chemical guys , but no matter what its very difficult to avoid micro marring and you must dry the car if you don't want water spots "if you are using your normal hose water".

You can go to a car wash, where they claim its spot free. But how often do they change there resin filters ? Probably not very often as they are very epxensive. I've been to one of those self car wash's for the spot free rinse and i did not get a spot free rinse. Now they do make these resin containers you can hook up to your garden hose to clean out the water and make it spot free "aka deonizing" however they are very expensive. Ok so long story short i almost bought one of these to prevent water spots. Then i calculated how much it would cost PER gallon to make 1 gallon of distilled water / deionized water. "aka no minerals" and it was roughly 1 dollar per gallon.


So walmart has gallons of distilled water for 1 dollar...

Wash your car like you normally would, but when it comes time for drying just dump a few gallons of water strategically on the car and you will run off all the hose water and you will not have to dry , 100% spot free.

foam cannons are a joy to use, I have the hose powered foam gun, not the air powered one, everyone is always fascinated when I wash my car. I gotta pick up another set of lake country pads as well..

 

One of my buddies who is more of a detailing nerd than I am purchased an air dryer. They are becoming pretty common. He swears it is the way to go. I keep meaning to borrow his and try it out. No more having to keep drying towels perfectly clean and worry about fine scratches in the paint from the drying process.
