New to the ls4's and looking for some tips Hey guys, I've been around the lt1 and ls1 platform for around 10 years with the f-bodys and absolutely love them. Well now I have a family, and need to get something with 4 doors. I've just started looking at the gxp's and impala ss'. They seem like pretty nice vehicles and I'm thinking I may pick 1 up.
My questions to u guys are, what are the problems and or issues to look for with the ls4 platform when I'm looking at them. Are there any particular years that are preferred, or certain years that I should avoid? Is 1 model preferred over the other?
to those of you who own them, how do u like them for daily drivers?

transmissions, transmissions transmissions, cannot say this enough, almost every GXP out there has had their trans replaced at LEAST once. Honestly if the budget permits it, G8 GT might be the way to go.

That was my first choice but the g8's are much harder to find and Seem to be out of my price range. Thanks for the tip on the trannys tho, that's the kinda info I'm looking for about these cars. Any other tips like that would be great.
They are good daily drivers, but the aftermarket is very slim. Dont expect to be able to modify like the Fbodys without a good amount of fab work as aftermarket performance parts are few. The cars are reasonable now, too reasonable. As it has been said, transmission will probably need to be addressed if it has not already, and for some reason they are much more expensive than most. there are a few things you can do to help the transmission life tho. get a big tranny cooler for it, throw in a trans go shift kit, and get a tune. most guys run the diablo sport intune. they have a good tune in there to firm up the shifts. firmer shifts means less slipping, which means less heat, which means longer transmission life. I have a 06 monte ss. which is the same as the gp gxp and impala ss. I threw in the shift kit, big cooler, dropped and replaced fluid, and did the tune. and it performs great.

other issue i have with mine is my front tire dont last long. they tend to wear uneven. also gxp is hard to find matching front/rear tires. guess they are odd sizes.
dash is crack(you are probably use to that since you owned fbodys), heads up display stopped working, abs module stopped working... yeah mine needs some tlc lol

but your tunes will not work for anyone else.. tunes are tied to a vehicle by VIN number and engine calibration ID's and will only work for/install on the specific vehicle they were made for...
