wheel cleaners From my understanding the rims on the GXP are Alcoa aluminum clear coated right? So does that mean I can't use any rim polish on them, and can only use a cleaner that is "coated safe"?
I want to use mother's rim cleaner instead of just soap when I wash, but I am getting mixed opinions on whether to follow with an aluminum wheel polish, and I don't know 100% what our rims actually are.

You have a 2008 like I do... and our rims are not the genuine Alcoa rims like the 05,06 and 07 models have, ours are knock offs cause GM bitched out in 2008 as a going away present to buyers... not sure if that fact matters but just thought I'd point that out.
I would suggest you test the polish on a small part of the rim but I can't imagine why rim polish would harm it... you could try using a clay bar on the rims first maybe and then polish them.

I prefer the looks of the 08 rims much better, regardless of what they are. Its a 8 year old rim, I don't think it really matters at this point what you use to clean them as long as it isnt a Brillo pad
