Might get one soon.
What is the aftermarket like for these?
ow interhangable is the ls4 to the other lsx motors?
I'm not sure what changes (besides color options) they made for 2007, but here's my thoughts about the '06:
My likes? Obviously, the power is great. Highway accel is effortless. Passing even easier. Radio is setup nicely if you switch between AM, FM and XM a lot. Huge trunk! You could add subs and a box and lose next to nothing. Well laid out and easy to clean interior (doors are all textured plastics, no vinyl/pleather; not many "crevases" to clean (except along sides of plastic base of flip-n-fold seats). Although last winter was unusually dry in Buffalo, whatever snow they threw at us was handled well with the stock 18" GY RSA's.
My gripes? The seats aren't great...hard and unsupportive (no side bolsters), and no power-memory option for the driver side (sucks when you split the driving w/someone else). Less (rear) interior room than previous gen Impalas - no matter how they measure, it IS smaller back there b/c of the cavernous trunk! Base MP3 radio sucks donkey ***** when it comes to volume (needs to be 1/2 way before you can hear it over driving/ambient noise and doesn't get too much louder). Engine and exhaust are too quiet for v8 (but my K&N Aircharger helped that a LOT!). Cupholders SUCK! Too shallow and the adjustable center "divider" for the cupholder moves too easily after 1st month (i heard that they may have changed that for 07 (?).
Aftermarket is OK for a 1.5y.o. engine. K&N ($275), ColdAirIndustries ($250-300?) and Intense Racing ($99) have intakes available (the latter being a FWI). VectorMotorsports ($350 + $500 core) and Westers Garage/TuneTime ($unk) have "canned" tuned PCM's, and HPTuners ($unk) software "rocks" according to most users. Diablo just released their "Predator" handheld tuner ($320-400), which doesn't offer as much tuning as HPTuners, but for a beginner or someone without a laptop, it seems like a decent thing. Someone said it causes some issues with the idle and DOD, but i don't know for certain. Magnaflow came out with a Cat-back recently ($800(?)). There are 1.8 roller rockers available (through intense?) and a cam somewhere else.
Just buy it! You know you want to! We're not going to change your mind.
