LS4 underrated?
LS4 underrated? i have some buddies on a w-body forum that claim the LS4 dynos at 300 hp at the WHEELS. now, while this wouldnt be the first time GM has done this, what are the actual whp and estimated engine hp numbers for the LS4?

I believe they are a little underrated. Even if they dyno around 245-260 like you said using a 20% drivetrain loss (thats what pretty much everyone will agree is a good # for the 4T65 tranny) then that would make the power more like around 315-325. So yes they are alittle underated, but not much.

FWD cars have less driveline loss then RWD, and 20% is on the high end of a RWD auto loss..... I dont know if 20 is a good number to go with there, if that is really what it is then GM needs to get you guys a new tranny

The reason we all (3800 community) say 20% DT loss is because 97-03 GP GTP are 240HP and all dyno stock around 190-195WHP about 20% and the 04+ GP GTP/Comp Gs are 260HP and dyno around 205-210WHP again about 20%.
But YES GM needs to give us a better tranny.
