Default New ISS comin' for me...

well, had my car in this morning for it's next scheduled service - I had a laundry list for them one of them being the "thud/thumping" in the front end when turning the wheel.

Well, apparently now, instead of just lubing the ISS, GM has them order a new ISS kit, shaft and all... so, I'll be getting a whole new ISS installed in a week or so.

And still no word on when they'll have the coax/remote fix for the Monte.

They were able to just lube mine. We'll see how long that lasts. The clunking is gone, i know that much, but most people who have had it done have to have it done twice within the warranty period.

Make sure that when they DO have a fix out for the Monte, you get there FIRST. Wouldn't want you to have them open it all up and find out that the parts are on Nat'l backorder already, like mine

The ISS is the Intermediate Steering Shaft

GM is having a problem with their ISS's clunking. My 06 Silverado went in for that, the dealer said it was common and lubed it and sent me on my way. No problems since. Why doesn't GM just lube them at the factory?

they do, but after 20k-25k miles, it starts doing it. and even after it's been re-lubed, it will/can start doing it again after THAT lube gets worked out.

apparently now they have this new setup that won't need to have that done... I hope...

What does the ISS stand for? I know that I have the same clunking sound and I'm at 32,000 miles.

I guess i'm a little ignorant when it come to some terms/abbreviations. lol

I wouldn't count on that. My Z71 went in several times for lube and they finally replaced it with a new ISS that was the fix for the problem. About 6 months later it needed lubed again. So they lubed it and I traded for my impSS. You'd think GM could solve the ISS problem by now. Hell if nothing else, go buy a competitor's and reverse engineer it.

I'm not sure how I've managed to NOT have any ISS trouble yet, seems to be one of the first complaints about these cars. I've already had my rack replaced, I don't think they touched the ISS when they did that. If it continues to stay quiet, I'll be happy.

I've had the ISS lubed and the rack replaced, and while there is no clunking now, I still have a high-pitched squeak/squeal when turning the wheels during low-speed maneuvers. I'm at 34,500 now and plan to see the dealer in 1000mi with my laundry list of problems...including the transmission shift issue (with the 20's off the car, of course!)
