Idea for cold air
How about replacing the stock air filter with a K&N because it's a better filter.
and because the air box is so restrictive. cut a nice neat hole in the thing; and run a piece of flex tubing to the front of the car by the raditor somewhere?
this will force in cold air!!
I wanted to grab air like the K&N kit for the LT1 Z's did (similar to a FWI), but no luck. I assumed at that time I had to pull the headlight to get "ram air", and thought that was GM engineering's solution . You get no "stealth" look that way on a Friday night.
Now that it's warmer out here I may look at it again when I clean the MAF.
You pull the 60mm tube out for starters? I have a K&N factory replacement in the stock box.
Yesterday, I pop the hood to wipe down the engine and I notice that I failed to clasp the lid shut on the airbox. Actually, the two top clasps were pushed down, so that they held the top of the airbox (just in front of the filter) open about a half inch all the way around. That let's in lots of fresh air. Hmm.
I left it that way for the time being to see if there are any driveability issues, but it's been 3 weeks now and I'm happy. Try it.

I think the engineer's way of helping out flow on these cars is the 60mm tube.
