Default Idea for cold air

ok so it's late now and I come up with these ideas when I'm tired..
How about replacing the stock air filter with a K&N because it's a better filter.
and because the air box is so restrictive. cut a nice neat hole in the thing; and run a piece of flex tubing to the front of the car by the raditor somewhere?
this will force in cold air!!

Why not just spend the $60 more and buy an Intense FWI? Same deal, really, and you won't be kicking yourself when you decide you need to reinstall the factory box for warranty work.

When I first got this car, I tried to look at improving the airflow, but IIRC the MCSS is different in the inner fender skeleton than the ImpSS, with no room for anything.

I wanted to grab air like the K&N kit for the LT1 Z's did (similar to a FWI), but no luck. I assumed at that time I had to pull the headlight to get "ram air", and thought that was GM engineering's solution . You get no "stealth" look that way on a Friday night.

Now that it's warmer out here I may look at it again when I clean the MAF.

You pull the 60mm tube out for starters? I have a K&N factory replacement in the stock box.

Oooops, that's right...the fender opening in the GXP was different than the Imp/MC...so the Intense is a no-no for the bowtie crew, huh? I forgot to look when i installed my K&N.

Default Intake Mistake

OK, so a few weeks ago I cleaned off and blew out my air filter and replaced it. Right away, I noticed an improvement in the throttle response and a nice intimidating growl from under the hood that wasn't there before. Great, thinks I, that filter was really dirty.

Yesterday, I pop the hood to wipe down the engine and I notice that I failed to clasp the lid shut on the airbox. Actually, the two top clasps were pushed down, so that they held the top of the airbox (just in front of the filter) open about a half inch all the way around. That let's in lots of fresh air. Hmm.

I left it that way for the time being to see if there are any driveability issues, but it's been 3 weeks now and I'm happy. Try it.

Personally I wouldn't keep the box cracked, because there is a load on that seal to keep the gap closed.

Tell me you at least removed the 60mm tube ...

Reminds me of flipping the lid on the old air cleaners to get the sound and extra air.

Yeah Bill - except this time the bottom of the filter isn't sealed, where as the old SB carb lid flip trick sealed the entire filter.

I think the engineer's way of helping out flow on these cars is the 60mm tube.

No I didn't remove the tube, I wasn't even intending to modify it, just cleaning the filter.
