Default HIDs and DRLs

So. . . got a fun one for all you. I have a 2007 Impala SS and am looking at getting HID kits from Nathan over at LEDguages. However I am concerned about the DRLs wearing out the HID kits faster.

Thoughts?

Anyone know how to disable the DRLs?

HELP!!

Thanks

Eddie

I thought Buff said his HID's don't turn on because of the lower voltage not being able to ignite them.

I always turn my headlight switch to the left to turn off the DRLs anyway, so that is always an option.

I'm not sure if that would be good for them either. . .

Most GM cars have a fuse for the DRL circuit, which you want to pull. No quicker way to ruin a ballast than lower voltage than needed. Most xenon kits will tell you to pull the DRL fuse so the HID's are not getting that low voltage the DRL circuit puts out.

I wonder if that would throw a code, can I just put a loop in the circuit or something?

It will not throw a code, I did this on a 02 DTS because damn GM refused to put HID's in a luxury car.

I want to get the yellow parking lights on the Monte to act as the DRL's instead of the headlights, kinda like the Pontiacs.

Yah, this would all be good. So who is the electrical whizz around here that can figure it out before I blow fuses

I think his DRLs were the turn signals for some reason he won't share

He was just confused about that...had a habit of turning the fogs on all the time, making the parking lamps come on automatically.

This still begs the question about the lighting and HIDs working properly

Yeah, i'm interested in knowing this as well. I may just pull the fuse, though, and leave nothing to chance. I thought i heard of a relay being available to pull power directly from the battery or something...clearing up the issue...but can't find confirmation of this.

On this note...maybe related...does anyone elses Auto-lighting act funky? My lights came on this AM and it was bright as $h!t out. They should have never come on at all. I've often wondered if they are tied into an onboard computer time or something. Generally, they will turn on before 8am no matter the daylight, and after 4:30-5pm in the evening, when one would think there was plenty of ambient light available. Don't remember having this issue with the stock lighting.

Mine always seem to come on dim in the morning and it takes a little for them to brighten up, not sure what the deal is. . . .

I have heard of this relay solution as well, but can't find any instructions or anything.

Your stock headlights or your gauges come on dim?

One of my HIDS right now is acting up on me because my battery died and I was turning the lights on alot of times with a dead or very low battery to see if the battery was dead. Now I realize how stupid that was and hope I don't need a new igniter. Just proves how sensitive these things are too low voltage.

So anyone figure out a way to permanently turn off DRLs?

I did this. Hasn't adversely affected anything headlight related. It's a light blue 15A fuse just below the 4 blower motor & fan relays/fuses in the panel under the hood. Grab your manual and take a look for "DRL1" There is a DRL2 also mentioned, but i had no fuse in that one.
