Default First time at the track.

So i went down to the track the first time last night. Unfortunitly the conditions were not ideal i had almost a full tank of gas and i got to the track late and due to breakdowns I could only get one run in. I launched it in first at about 3/4 throttle and got alot of tirespin i was suprised to see my 60' was as low as it was. However it was my first time with a FWD car at the track do you guys have any recomendations on how to improve my times? Im pretty sure if i had some more practice runs i could have gotten it down a bit.

R/t - .121
60' - 2.503
330 - 6.466
1/8 - 9.693
MPH - 76.09
1000 - 12.463
1/4 - 14.820
MpH - 95.77

Yeah try starting with 1/4 - 1/2 throttle and ease into it until you get to 20 and then you should be able to mash it... Also, throw it into 2...not 1.

When you launch, you should say "monte carlo," gradually rolling onto the throttle. At the end of the -lo, the gas should be pegged. A slow 60ft time means a fast 1320. If you spin through the 60ft box, you will have a slow 1320 time.

Try to go on a 1/4 tank of gas next time too. If you are serious about track times, investing in some stock sized Drag Radials wouldn't be a bad idea.

I don't understand why all of you guy's are so..... slow???
Stop!! stabbing the gas pedal off of the line and learn how do gradually step into it. Do a bunch of practice take offs on the street and experiment with tire pressure (big difference!) Shift into 3rd manually!
I wanna 15" wheel and I'll pull my frickin brakes of my car if I have too! Give me a 26 to a 28" slick with tons of side wall!!!
Scarlett you seem to have every mod what was your MPH?

It doesn't make a difference from what I've seen.

Why? If you have it in 2nd....it should auto-shift into 3rd on it's own.

if u leave it in 2nd it will hold that gear longer then just drive. and it will blow shift into third automatically when it gets near a dangerous rev

As far as shifting, he has a GXP, and not an Impalla or Monte. Tapshift will not automatically upshift, at least not mine. Most GXP's with good times are launching in drive, then going into Tap-shift once you hit 2nd and then you shift into 3rd.

My MPH was around 95 I believe, my best 60 foot was 2.2 and 1/4 was 14.8 but I need to learn this slow mash crap cause when I see that third yellow I pound the pedal to the floor. My car is alot quicker on the street hooks like a **** and I am gone.

Yeah, for a good launch, you have to roll into the throttle. I can't remember where I heard this advice but here goes. When you are staged you want to be at about 1000 to 1200 rpm. Don't worry about your reaction time at all. Take your time off the line. Act like you are not racing anyone. Even if your reaction time is 3 or 4 seconds, it is okay because the quarter mile time only starts when the car rolls out of the stageing. The reaction time will not affect the 60ft either. When you are ready, take your foot off the brake and say to yourself "Mississippi". When you begin to say it, try to be at 1200 or so RPM. The idea is to be at full or close to full throttle at the end of saying the word. It sounds dumb but it does work. You can get 60ft times of 2.0 all day long if done correctly.

I don't get that...2.2 isn't the best 60...but it's decent enough to get you easily into the 13's with that mod list.

Dont forget my elevation I am in Calgary Alberta 3440 ft and with the dew point and humidex the day I ran it was over 5000 ft. So 14.8 for that if you do the calculations is in the 13 range for where you guys live.
