Default Tap Shift Impala?

I'm curious if it would even be possible to install the tapshift option of the GXP to the SS Impala. It seems odd to me that GM only gave the option to one and not the other. Any thoughts?

For what it's worth, I never use it, I find it doesn't really do anything for me at all. I always drive with it in D.

My thoughts about is are I may be helpful with my auto-X oppurtunities. I wouldn't expect to use it very often either. Thanks for the input.

I hear it the tapshift doesn't really make a difference. But just what I heard I don't have the GXP. And I probably wouldn't use it if it were in my Imp. If I wanted to shift gears I would have gotten a car with a manual. What are you doing using an Imp SS for auto-x anyways haha.

Yeah I dont use it much either except when Im screwing around. I love to do burn outs in first gear from around 10mph. People never expect that from a "grocery getter."

Its also the fact that the final drive ratio is so crazy that you can take 2nd gear to over 100mph. What chance does that give you to shift! So needless to say, it stays in drive. Its pretty sad, but without a 6 speed tranny it kinda sucks.

Either way, if you want to manually shift in a chevy, you can use the 1-2-3-D same **** as the gxp paddles...just a different "input" mechanism.

The street version of tap-shift is just a gimmicky toy. The Corvette has it, so all the folks that can't shift a manual can pretend they're shifting.

The C6.R does have a real tap-shift.

Do like Hexx said and row the stick.

The difference is the GXP will not shift for you like the SS twins with the gear selector in 1,2,3,D. On a GXP if you leave it in drive then it will shift into 3rd at around 86 MPH where as TAPshift you can hold to 100 or so MPH. I use it all the time during little street "runs" with people so I don't have to wait the 1/2 second for a down shift. Also in the corners it's fun to leave it in second and hold on tight. But if you have a tunned PCM/TCM then it's kinda pointless. In my Comp G, I always used it until I started tuning myself and now the tranny does what I want it to all the time so I don't use TAPshift to much any more for it.

yeah, i guess i should have gotten a manual...but tapping is the next best thing. I use it quite literally all the time either for performance shifting or to upshift sooner than the drive gear will allow to get better mileage.

I believe the most tried and true method to dragging these cars involves starting in D and when it shifts into 2nd convert to manual and maintain that gear

The only reason I use mine is too keep it in second to screw around, cause likeCompg sais the GXP does not automatically upshift. Also with the torque steer of these cars it's safer to shift with both hands on the wheel when you're hammering it through s curves.

Really it doesn't auto-shift? What happens when you reach peak RPM's under WOT??

rev limiter. It will not let you down shift if you will put the car above the rev limit doing so. Also one complaint I have is you can get to 103mph in 2nd gear upshifting, but you can't down shift from 3rd to 2nd after about 72mph(my car is stock). Which sucks when you want to whip out and pass some jack *** on the highway.

so it just sits there bouncing around 6k rpms? Cool! Though I've gotten used to the auto-shifting in the MC...shouldn't be riding out 2nd at top rpms for long anyways. And yes, I can't stand that I can take 1st up to 50 but I can't downshift until 35. Diablosport ***! <---for the win...why does this forum bleep that out?

I may stand corrected on the "gimmicky" part, hearing you can hold the gears and bang on the rev-limiter.

Having such a bad experience with the 4L60E, that doesn't sound like a good idea to do that too many times.

I agree with the not being able to down shift, ever see someone not match the revs to the rear rpms on a manual downshift? (like I've never done that before )

Technically its not bouncing off the rev limiter, our cars have electronic throttle so theres no disabling the fuel injectors when hitting the rev limiter. Which makes the engine run extremly lean and is very bad for the engine :-\ sry for nitpicking.

I think hexx is saying that it's cool you can take it there and hold it, if you want to without it automatically upshifting. I don't think he would actually enjoy holding it(the rpms) there. Maybe I'm wrong.
