does anyone know where our ecm/tcm are located?

yup... need to take off the top half of the air box and they're secured in the bottom half of it...

is the tcm just the silver piece with the ridges in it and what tool(s) do i need to take it out?

IIRC, they're just clipped into place in the bottom of the airbox. You may need a 5/16" socket to free up the airbox, but after that i'm pretty sure your hands will do. It's been a while since i installed the K&N so i can't remember exactly what i had to do.

yea i got the the k&n too so if i just take off the strut bar and the filter i can just remove the tcm by hand hopefully?
